hi

my mrs 2009 fn2 type r broke down on the motorway today with a seized front caliper (o/s)

we had it recovered via honda assist to our local dealership (narborough) who have inspected it and told us that the warranty company are not willing to replace the caliper, they will only replace the seals but ive been told that the caliper has truly had it. we are being told it also now needs new discs and pads aswell due to the damage caused.

total for caliper and discs/pads is around £550

really annoyed about this as we paid £9k for it 8 weeks ago and we managed to wangle 2 years warranty with it. car has only covered 41k.

any ideas what i can do about this?

 

Do they normally cover calipers then ?

 

no only the seals BUT my gripe is that we have only had the car around 8 weeks and now its not fit for purpose

There renown for it send them to big red and they'll do them up with stainless pistons. I've done a few but its not worth the hassle easier and when you take your time into consideration probably cheaper. Did that air filter do your job ok.

 

We do quite a few of these , we make our own stainless steel pistons for them as well , we can either offer you parts to do them yourself , or fully e=recondition them powder coated any colour

We would have to recondition yours as we don't have any here to exchange , to bead blast , powder coat red , fit new stainless pistons and seals and bleed nipples , we charge £104.16 + vat per caliper.

In that price we also blast and powder coat the caliper carriers as well

Thanks Ian. Out of curiosity how much per rear calipers aswell? Also her front calipers have the type r logo on them embossed on the metal, could we have that done in a different colour?

update on this......

honda warranty were having none of this so we got back in touch with the dealer and pretty much told them that the car was not fit for purpose and a full refund would the ideal outcome so it was agreed that they would pay our local dealership to fix it.

car has had a new caliper and new front discs and pads now and drives perfect.

They only did the 1 calliper?

 

yeah only 1 caliper was seized

 

I'm sure they could of stretched to a pair to be 100% sure considering you paid over what, 9k for it?

 

it is what it is mate,just glad they done what they done to be honest.

the warranty doesnt cover the calipers only the seals so to get a new caliper is a result.

at some point i will be sending them off to ian for poweder coating so will get him to fit new seals/pistons aswell

 

Oh well at least you've got it sorted in the end 🙂

 

Painted my calipers and wheels the other week...cost me less than £10 to do the calipers using halfords caliper paint...mine will probably seize up now!

 

I pushed the tyres off the rim and wedged a piece of cable in the gap to hold the tyre back.
sanded back any curb marks then fully rubbed down the wheels.
