My Dad wants to get a car sometime next year and he isn't in a hurry but he's asked me to help and has a budget of approx £60-70k. He's looked at an Audi R8 but luggage space is a main factor unfortunately.
The criteria is:
- Needs to be special/stand out
- Second hand
- Likely to hold value/appreciate
- Luggage space for 2 small suitcases
- Will also consider some sort of "super classic"
Thanks so far, Ferrari 360 looks very nice. Porsche 911 (993) very nice too but pushing the budget to £100k for a nice one, 993 turbo's £150kish
I don't think a GTR is his sort of thing but will definitely mention. Keep the suggestions coming.
Manual Ferrari 355, 50/60k
Try find an R129 SL 600, car came with the same block that's in the zonda, and can be made to sound similar
or same shape sl 63 amg rare v8, or rarer sl73 amg v12 (hens teeth.)
Porsche 928 GTS as i says earlier,
Ferrari 456 Manual (scary v12 ferrari running costs tho)
As has been suggested, a well chosen ferarri is probably the way to go. I had an option on a very low mileage 1976 308GTB which was in good shape. At the time I couldn't find the £20K I needed to buy it. I doubt I will ever be able to afford a tidy example now!!!

He doesn't have any idea hence the need for help.
Shame about the R8. I had one for just over 3 years and got the money back I paid for it. Outstanding cars. You'd be surprised how much luggage you can get in one. Not suitcases, but squishy bags. Decent space in front and they have a special bag that lays on the shelf behind the seats. You can get loads in it.
Problem with Ferrari's is the maintenance costs required to make sure it holds it's value. Plus they are the most millage sensitive cars on the planet.

TVR Sagaris, might have missed the boat there though.
Tuscans seem to be trading well at the moment too. Certainly rare things and never going to be any more of anything of the ilk of those early 2000's T cars ever again.
Thanks guys, lots of suggestions to look at there. But a 22B definitely isn't his thing! He did comment that a 355 Spider looks very nice but it's pushing it at £80k.
Interesting suggestion regarding a V12 Merc SL600. After a bit of research, it seems that a V8 Merc SL60 AMG is probably a better and more exciting car according to various forums and comments.
Only 50ish made in RHD
Porsche 968 Club Sport with factory decals? Surely that's gonna be worth a bomb in say 10 years(?)
Lots of these suggestions has opened doors to other ideas which is great.
