Renault have release a stripped out version of the 172 called the clio cup. 100 kilos lighter, puts 0-60 at 6.5 seconds and move the game on again. Wider front and rear track too. Watch out civic type r !

Anybody seen any of theses clio cups ?

Yeah, I knew about these a few months ago and they sound great!

Peugeot are also rising to the challenge and launching a "hot" 206 GTi replacement with a 180bhp 2.0 litre VVT engine and a 6 speed box, that will weigh f*ck all. Comes in at about £15k so well priced too.

Also in the pipeline are the Vauxhall Corsa GSi Turbo and Ford Fiesta ST150, so looks like they're all playing the game.

Gonna be some real good cars out there soon!

Coooolllll, I'm a great believer in light weight and fun, that's why I have no stereo/rear seats/A/C, only joking but the Renault should be good if it can last more than 20000 miles without breaking down

Sounds like they have removed all the stuff that generates the most warranty claims

What no one mentions is the cars which achieve good 0-60s by having low weight feel a lot more sluggish with a lardy mate or two on board.

Cool

Finally another manufacture is opting for what Honda has done for the past 5 years, admittedly not aswell .

The only problem is once you add in the little extras (seats mainly), the price starts to rise a little.

What happens to the Clio V6, the 172 werent that far behind, what with the Clio Cup being lighter and higher BHP than the 172, it makes the V6 look very over priced. Don't get me wrong the look of the V6 is fantastic, but you could have a pair of Cup cars for the price of a new one.
