VW 2.0 Tdi 180ps. Tuning/remap options ?
Never owned a diesel so a basic question.
What are the options for getting more 'get up and go' from the VW 2.0 tdi 180ps lump ?
I have seen that there is a plug-in chip available but wouldn't it be better/safer to have a complete rolling road remap of the ecu and a few selected mods i.e. exhaust/air intake/ boost controller etc at the same time ?
Then what could be safely achieved, a sensible remap with-in the capabilities of the engine and auto gearbox (not manual)?
All a bit vague but any pointers would be appreciated.

Have a 2015 Seat Leon 2.0 FR 184 TDi (Same VW Engine as Golf GTD). Opted for the DTUK CRDT+ plug in unit (Claims power up to 240BHP and 500Nm Torque), which took 5 minutes to plug into the common rail and Boost sensor. Car is more lively. Mine has the DSG (Auto) gear box. Did a lot of research first and a lot of VW, SEAT, AUDI & Skoda owners swear by them. Have seen a few reports of juddering when fitted by some owners, but this has been established that the unit only exaggerates a problem that's already there on some faulty boost sensors fitted. Only issue I have is that the car now wheel spins more if you try and plant it from the get go (rubbish Bridgestone tyres from new), and that's with the traction system on. got mine from www.diesel-performance.co.uk also known as DTUK. They also do another unit for the Throttle side as well which a lot of people praise for getting rid of that hesitation in power response you can get in 3rd gear for over taking. Do your research first is what I would advise.

From experience the 168(170) /177 (180) /184/190 versions of the engine all have plenty of torque to start with, so its all about getting and managing loads more torque.
As mentioned above - gearbox and wheelspin are the two areas where you are putting more load.
The last one you can deal with by buying one of the VW Group models with the same basic engine variant and Haldex 4WD. This means the SEAT Leon Xperience, Skoda Octavia or Superb or Yeti , Passat or Golf All track, variety of Audis with Quattro. Then you are in full stealth mode...
