Yet the owner will swear blind, there's hardly any wheelspin or Torque steer, even in the wet!

They are a nice car, but should have been 4WD from the outset.

The new one looks good, possible Scooby beater that is.

Noooo! lol sad but you're right. I think many years ago the 4wd and tuning capabilities of the Impreza kept it ahead in terms of performance from hot hatches etc of the time, but nowadays VXRs, RSs, etc are just so efficient and utilise the available technology very well, that they will give most Impreza's a good run for their money.

It's one of the main reasons I like the classic, as its a fair bit lighter than later models, and if you can get 400+ out of one then you can stay ahead of most things. Cheap to buy too! Expensive to get to 400+ tho

£ for £ still a performance bargain, yeah VXR's, ST's etc. will keep up / be quicker on a dry, straight road but throw in a bit of damp and a few bends...

Know what I'd rather be in.

Also, Subarus are just about the ONLY cars to retain proper 4WD.
The rest (of the competition) are faux Haldex turd or FWD which is cack.
Except ours of course; correct wheel drive...

Or making the driver work to be any good, not helped by electronics.

But we digress. The figures are impressive but realwork use is very limited. The other noticable thing about the RS fanboys is they never seem to use them on track at PCAD or Rallyday.

The old school Fords are hammered around by none of the new batch of RS's - shiney yes, but fragile?

You can't effectively deploy that much power though the wheels that also do the steering! Period. Ford did exceptionally well to make the std RS behave as well as it did. It was impressive .......for a front wheel drive car (that proviso is key)

I think the very fact that Ford have finally moved to AWD is a tacit admission that they'd gone as far as they dare with FWD and to effectively deploy more power they had to revise their drivetrain layout.

The new car looks impressive (full stop)

I wonder how it will be received by the ford lot?

There might be better cars out there but I seem to find myself keep going back to Imprezas. After the bad luck with my Golf R, I can see myself in another Impreza before the end of the year.
