Default Mini One wing mirror covers / caps

Hoping someone might be able to help with / advise on Mini One wing mirror caps. My wife has a Mini One (R50 53 plate) with checkered wing mirror caps / covers. The car came with the black & white checks already fitted but she has decided she wants rid of these and wants to replace them with all black to match the rest of the car.

I'm trying to determine whether the existing checkered mirror covers are the sort which simply stick over the standard mirror cap (as flogged on ebay), or whether they are fully fitted wing mirror caps which need to be detached / attached correctly as part of the wing mirror body.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated - the last thing I want to be doing is damaging her mirrors as she will go nuts !

If they're the original wing mirror covers bud, which is sounds like they are....
They should be proper backings for the mirror and not just a cover over a proper mirror casing. If you know what I mean?

I had an R53 and I changed my chrome caps for black ones to match my roof.

Cheers Ste, but I'm still a little unsure having read that some covers fit over existing caps. I've taken a few photos of on of the wing mirrors to see if you figure it out:

they look genuine to me bud. I reckon if you took those off, there's nothing underneath.

In which case I won't bother trying to prize them off and will look for a suitable how-to.

Cheers buddy, managed to get the checkered ones off (albeit with snapping a few of the clips on the inside of the cap) and get the black ones on.
