1k-2k ish Track Car
Evening All
Me and the Wife are looking to buy a fun track car for around the 1k-2k
mark at the end of the summer and do it up over the winter as a track car.
So far i have thought of the following:
1) Golf Mk4 1.8t
2) Golf Mk4 GT TDI 130
3) Honda Civic Type R
4) Toyota Corolla T Sport
Anyone got any other suggestions?. Already had a clio sport so not looking for one of them.
I know one is a diesel but i know you can get big power out of it. We will be tuning it so turbo is preferred.

205 owners club forums, there's plenty about
There used to be a place in Horsham that sells 205 gti's but they were quite expensive restored examples.

306 Gti 6 or as already stated 205 Gti (1.9) had both of these cars on the road and loved them both.

Definitely an mx5 , rear wheel drive and well known for great handling , and if you can spend a few thousand on it use it as the donor for an mev exocet kit car , well worth looking into , also a well known upgrade is adding and impreza turbo to it ,

Has to be RWD if you want fun, Toyota MR2's are cheap these days as well as MX5, wish I'd have gone that route instead of an STI type R would have saved a small fortune, both are very reliable and can be turbo'ed or supercharged.
They're not the fastest but since you're not racing it doesn't matter, but they're both a hoot to drive.

No mention of a clio 172/182 yet, normally the first suggestion!

I've heard a lot about these but I guess it boils down to if you want RWD or FWD.

There really isn't anything better in the 1k-2k price bracket than a Clio 172/182 although the OP said he doesn't want one.

Great little track the Clio 172 just bought one for my 2 older sons (18 and 24)to experience track days as I think it teaches them the limits of a car away from lamp posts and trees!
