Default SLK Brakes

This is probably aimed at F1 Fan, but feel free to chirp in.....

I am tempted to upgrade the brake discs/pads on the SLK 200 (R171 model)
Any suggestions on which to go for if I do?

What I would look at is upgrading the brakes to the SLK 350 set up. With SLKs there is little reported improvement with aftermarket disks although different pads can have a good effect depending on how you drive and what you are looking for from your braking set up.

Most people in your situation upgrade the disks, calipers and pads to those from the SLK 350. The calipers can be had from breakers for reasonably sensible money and buy new disks and pads. That will hugely improve the braking ability of your car.

Do you suggest both front and rears or just rears?

do you have any suggestion on decent breakers or MB used parts companies?

Cheers

One last thing....the SLK has 17" wheels on. Will the 350 brakes go on with no issue?

Cheers

Default slk

hi bud i am a merc teck up in scotland the sport brakes are brembo calipers and drilled discs the 17 in alloy should fit over the calipers as long as you have the correct et it stamped on the inside of the alloy example 7x17 et 45 and part number . contact your local merc dealer and find out what et clears the brakes. i will try and locate a slk with sport type and get the et for you it may take a wee while
my wife has a new 172 model which is different
contact dronsfield breakers in england for the calipers , warning the calipers suffer from seized pistons and brake pins that seize in the caliper
buy new discs and pads ,you will be surprsed at the cost . the discs wear badly on the inside and corrode and radialy score because of the drill holes on the braking surface
hope this helps
