It was only £7000 with 36000 miles. Nice alternative to the Scoob and deceptively quick, with more power at the wheels than a lot of Scoobies. Sadly it doesn't have that last 20% of Scooby ability when you really push it. Seen an RS4 driven well at Crail - almost silent but very fast indeed. Times beaten by at least one Scoob though but that was a monster (Cosie Convert).

Clearly they wern't trying - in fact it looked like an old git driving it. Why do people buy cars like that if they are going to drive them like Austin Maxi's?

Yeah, there are loads of guys on here that will right a 10'000 word thread on exactly why "People drive cars when they don't rag them" theory.
I fear you may have opened the floodgates for one of those bitchy threads!!
Good luck mate...!!

The early warnings may dispell the "Oh angry ones..." we'll have too see.
I think some people actually prowl on here waiting for threads were they can start an argument.

A big six can be enjoyed without driving to the max all the time though unlike the Scooby. Maybe I am old at 27, but I love 20 PSI and 5000-7000 RPM like the next bloke, but driving my wife's 3L V6 Pug 406 today was really nice and relaxing - you could make rather good progress just by changing up at 3000 RPM whilst warming up the engine. Enjoying the smooth, seamless power delivery of a silky smooth engine, superbly smooth ride, feeling the soft suspension taking the weight smoothly under cornering. I was only going to get a Chinese take away, and was then pleased to park it up again, but it is nice sometimes and this is a poor man's BMW/Audi imitator, nice as a second car or for cruising.

One of my customers has an RS4 where he has spent as much as the cost of the car on mods and trust me, you couldn't drive it like an old granny, even in reverse. Having seen what it could do on a track, there is no way would I consider putting even the hairiest Scoob up against it. Evil thing it is!
Still, it does not light my fire.

My Old man drives an RS4.
He's 62 y.o.
From 40 years driving experience on UK roads I can assure you the last thing on his mind is racing around in the wet trying to prove *nothing* to **** jockeys in Impreza's who "want a go"
Perhaps you might like to consider not everyone drives like you! I used to share opinions like this when I was about...mmm....16...in fact I used to egg him on all the time in previous fast cars he owned.
Irony of your post is.....all he used to say to me was:
"What's the point? It's obviously a big deal for him.....I'll let him go so he can tell all his mates about it"

John Banks,
You really sound like a top GP, every GP I have ever seen has been so boring.. and which Peugot dealer do you work at?
I think if an impreza was a woman then she'd be a bit of a dirty b1tch! way hey!
The RS4 would be a bit of a posh bird, until the light goes off..

impreza would be a highly strung woman who could turn around and smack you one if you got too leery.
On the bright side, she would need fairly regular servicing.
If the lancer evo were a woman though, she'd need twice as much servicing. Whehey!!

TT owner dude! Do you really think that happens? True car enthusiasts know the capabilities of nearly all other standard cars so are hardly likely to think they won if the other driver clearly wasn't trying. If I beat a scooby or a 225 TT I dont tell my mates that my VTS is faster than them I'd just moan that the driver didn't want to play when I did. I'd love to bait an RS4 into a race, it would frankly be funny to feel like I was in reverse

TT whatever yer name is... I thought I qualified my origional statement?
I just thought it was bit bit of fun to have an RS4 'scalp' to go with my M5 one
Methinks you take it all bit too seriously

Once saw and RS4 and an Exige having a bit of fun on the M74, they flew past me like I was stopped and I was doing nearly 100! Only problem though was about 10 miles down the road they were both on the hard shoulder surrounded by a few M5's
RS4's are absolutely awesome cars but they do suffer a few problems which I am sure everyone is well aware of!
Looking forward to the RS6 coming out

Uncle Buck ..Don't think you can really say that you have taken an RS4 or M5 scalp unless you were both trying and then winner takes all....Mog

Hi Guys
Mrs Mog here
I am very lucky that I used to have a P1 - which was a FANTASTIC car - especially for lane bashing. It was the type of car that anyone could get in and drive well (and fast), it was 'constantly wanting to go raw power'. However the down sides were the build quality and reliability problems - the clutch went after 4000 miles!!! (Yes I do know that you have to press it every time you change gear and it is not a foot rest either!!!) We also got fed up of it being off the road due to the 18" pirelli problems etc... I now drive an RS4 daily and have no regrets about changing cars at all. Basically it is schizo - very very well behaved at slow speeds but an animal when on the motorway - it pulls like a train. It is not really designed for lane bashing and took a while to get used to (unlike the scooby). If I had to critisize it I would say that the car holds on to the revs for too long during gear changes, a quick shift is a must and the leg room is a bit lacking in the back. I have never found the braking to be a problem - in fact it brakes better than the P1 and we have (so far) not had any bent wheels.
Sometimes I drive fast, sometimes slowly depending upon mood, whether the kids are in the car and whether somebody is tailgating me in which case I drive VERY slowly and then lose them when I can. Different cars are for different tasks and we should just enjoy driving them for what they are ...

How?
By volunteering a comment as you did and then backing down?
>>I just thought it was bit bit of fun to have an RS4 'scalp' to go with my M5 one <<
That's fine by me!
>>Methinks you take it all bit too seriously <<
Nope! :-)
In fact I wanted to take on a 360 Modena the other day when we were on a dual carriageway. He came up behind me, I moved over immediately and floored it - not to have a race.....but as a car enthusiast i wanted to see what it could do!
He pulled up along side me and wagged his finger implying speed too fast not wanting to get caught type thing.
No probs. I didn;t think he was an old git or drove it like an Austin Maxi though
