Question

The newly arrived WRX has been a blast to drive in & around New York City. Love its speed, handling, reliability, safety and Porche eating price. Can't wait for the STI to make it to our shores! The Lotus Elise is coming here in late 2003. It looks like it would be great additional weekend country road fun. However, the S1 reliability seemed to be a dog. What's the word on the S2 Elise?

the s1 was not unreliable mechanically - it just had some niggles that need infinite patience to iron out
leaky roof, rattles and squeaks and a few bit of oem stuff that were useless - but with the exception of a few hgf in some early cars they have not been unreliable

New s2 is a good deal better screwed together...unlikely to have the current engine in it by the time it gets to the states !

What Chris said. There was a rumour that the Toyota vvti engine had been agreed for the US-approved version (in all likelihood, that will be an 'S3'), but Lotus are denying it like mad. Mind you they were denying the 111/111S existed until the day it was revealed. Personally I think the vvti's going to need serious retuning to suit the car, it may make 190bhp, but it's got less torque than a standard 120bhp K series.
