Not really a fair comparison. A V8 R8 with less power, a whole lot less torque (100 lbs/ft or so) and a manual transmission. Against a DCT transmission F30 M3 it was always a foregone conclusion.

Not to mention the AWD system in the R8, a rolling start hands the advantage over to the BMW... Would like to see the same with the V10 from a standstill.

The Beemer had a baby seat on the back seats, and a set of golf clubs in the boot too

That was quite impressive

R8 has a proper Gearbox, the BMW doesn't

R8 gets head turning, the other one doesn't (Looks just like every other 3 Series)

R8 will be fun to drive do to N/A engine & Manual gearbox, the BMW won't.

R8 will be faster in the corners due to it's low centre of gravity, the BMW won't.

R8 will still go just as fast in the rain, the BMW won't

The BMW is faster in a straight line......

I know, why not compare it to another car that costs £50k more?

Thought you had - bought an RS3?

And chaps, I only posted it up for a bit of a giggle...
I couldn't give a shiny $hite if it's faster or slower than anything else.

Golf 7 R Nordschleife 13.04.14 Lap 09 [BtG] vs. some BMW M3s - YouTube
Good for you.
In that video the Golf also seems able to pi$$ all over sports bikes too!

The R is a nice little car, but just a bit too junior for our needs.

Im still a big kid so the R should be ok wish I could afford the new M3 as I followed a black one the other day and it looked so wide, had real road presence.

Went for DSG gearbox in the R, so im hoping im liking that as ive only ever had manual cars!!

DCT is a first for me too.
Glad I've got a manual Spyder to fall back into if the DCT doesn't cut it for weekend blasts.

Had a new BMW 325d M-sport as a courtesy car at the beginning of the year while my Impreza was being repaired and it was the first time I had driven something with a autobox, and to be honest I loved it, was so nice and was so easy to drive, im guessing the M3 would be the same but bloody quick, I never looked at my impreza in the same light again, felt hardwork after the BMW, so when I had chance to get rid, I did.

I like DSG, I've not lived with it but my brother and dad have both been happy with it. I only do a few miles a week so will stay with manual for now.

R8 still looks better than every other car mentioned in this thread.

Quick Reply: Blimey, these R8's are a bit slow...
