As it's new and running the VAG diesel just make sure she does the miles, mate at work had the Tiguan and was plagued by dpf and egr issues due to misses not driving it enough...but that's diesel for ya..
But other than that great cars. It uses the VAG haldex system like a Quattro auti etc

My missus also fancies one of these. From what I've heard they are very good cars and the second hand prices seem to reflect that.
Problem for me is that I don't see much point in having one if it isn't 4x4 and yet most sold seem to be 2wd and I don't really want her to have diesel as she doesn't do a huge mileage. In the new model they don't even do a petrol 4x4, in the older model they did but it would seem to be very rare. Sooner we get over this current obsession with diesels and the small turbocharged petrol engines take over the better IMHO.
That said I can't really complain as I drive a diesel but I don't intend to keep it long enough to be worrying about DPF/EGR/etc. issues. Would still prefer an economic 300 bhp+ petrol car but the torque that comes from diesel is also quite a draw.

We bought a new 1.8 TSi 4x4 L&K Yeti earlier this year and can't fault it.
Boot a little smaller than the Forester we had, but seats come out, roof rack easy to fit. Great for holidays.
Well finished and loads of gizmos for a relatively cheap price.
Dealerships we went to were brilliant and helpful.
we went for the petrol version for exactly the reasons that Little ted says. we do less than 15,000 miles/year and a lot of that around town. A diesel would have clogged up and is several £1000 more than the petrol.

I had a sit in an L+K and it was very nice. Like you say, for the money, it's decent value too. She wants an auto though. Luckily we're mainly fast roads to wherever we go so the diesel would get a a good blast to keep everything clean. If they did a DSG in petrol that would be the one I'd go for though.
