Yes your right sorry, I bumped the wrong thread... apologies.

Thanks for the response, on a quick glance I assume right or wrongly that the EcuTek is the way forward?

The car has just had a recent engine rebuild 3'000 miles ago, and the boost is spiking now and again from the information i have (PSI3).

Also the boost isn't consistant - struggling to reach over 11psi regularly, and then sometime spikes to 16psi So i figured i may as well get the car mapped to be on the safe side. Also the boost is very hesitant, ie not spooling noticeable until around 3'000 - 3'500 rpm which is a pain if your pulling out of a junction uphill ;-(

Im not sure what the psi/bar the car should be running at, but i was also considering uprating the turbo too prior to mapping if anybody has any suggestions as the uk300 PPP has the small turbo and its now covered 78k.

Is there anything else to be considered without spending too much money as at the end of the day i may even sell the car next year as im easily bored.

Sorry for the long thread, but id appreciate some feedback please. Many thanks Rob

If you email or call Simon or in fact the lovely man in the post above this, they will tell you all you need to know.

Simon Mapped my car and the ECU died.. he replaced it at his cost .. so I got a new ECU out of it ..

Cant recommend him enough.

I would second that with another vote for the JGM.

However Andrew Carr is based in the NW and does OS mapping at a greatly reduced cost, and can add some cool options that Ecutek haven't managed (yet ?)

Hi

I had mine mapped by dynamix (racedynamix) and 10 out of 10 for his efforts and sound advice on mods etc.
He mentioned being able to add extras to mine ie 2 boost settings, launch control all dependant on model.
he may be coming to wrexham soon as mine is overboosting slighty with this colder weather.

imho he will achieve exactly the same as an ecutek mapper would but without the need to pay £££'s for a lisence from ecutek. he is based in preston but will travel he done mine at adgespeed in irlam. you will find him over on LADSOC.co.uk and anybody over there will tell you how good his work is. not sure on years of experience but its a few years. he charges £250 for a remap and he is able to add launch control, individual gear boost levels (not on hawkeyes though) not sure what else due to mine being a hawkeye and having drive by wire throttle

Hi Graeme. Join Lads forum LADS :: Index and you will get a map for £250 as part of the discount for being a member by Andrew Carr. He based in Preston, only an hour from you. He is mobile too if that helps. Im probbly not the best to answer your bhp but Andrew will give you an approximation. Im doing a bit to mine as per below:

VF30 or TD05 (bought both)
STI Intercooler & new Larger intercooler (bought both)
Bigger Injectors
Full Stainless 3" decatted (bought but im sourcing a smaller turbo up pipe)

Looking at getting somehwere near 330bhp/330lbt, anything above is a bonus

ps, Will be selling one of the turbo's and one of the Intercooler's in a few weeks.

sounds good rob how much will you be selling one of the turbos for?
Sounds like a plan. i have im'd JGM to see if he does open source mapping too but it has to be £300 or under for me.

I think JGM use ecutek which i think is a licensed based software this then means you can only use ecutek mapping from there on (albeit not bad preices for tweaks). Also i have never seen a base price for anyone using ecutek for less the £500 for 1st maps.

I will be putting up both an Intercooler and a Turbo up forsale. I bought the TD05 and a larger TMIC for the job, however i got my hands on a brand new VF30 and a newage STI TMIC at a reasonable price, thus slight change in plans.

I have done some brief research and it seems there isnt a lot in it between the TD05 and VF30 in terms of power deliverance. However after reading on here its a must to 'up' the spec of the turbo to get over 300bhp comfortably without maxing out your TD04 if its actually capable of 300+?!? Simular with the Intrcooler, thus im now sourcing Injectors.

So I will soon list all the parts that are redunadant to me... Im open to offers now though.
  • Original TD04 will be forsale, covered 70+k, still works very well
  • TD05 covered apx 300miles only, like new.
  • Uprated new TMIC, simular to a STI newage one.
  • Turbo up cat pipe standard on a 2001 wrx
  • New 2" turbo up decat pipe once ive sourced a 1.5" one (newage STI ones are 42mm - 44mm - perfect if i can fond one)

you have another option to the ecutek licence mapping if you don't want to go open source.

buy a 2nd hand ecutek ecu with the licence and then you are only looking at a £150 remap. keys etc are reprogramed by the mapper.

£150 ish for the ecu and £150 for the map total around £300.

uk300

td04 will be maxed out around 280bhp and runs off boost very quickly.

top feed injectors can be had for good money 550 or 650 will do what you need easy.

good call with the origional sti top mount intercooler they are best fit for up to around the 400bhp mark and the only thing you should consider fitting in my opinion if not going down the front mount route.

with all the changes your making and fully decatting the car it's going to put such a big smile on your face as soon as you drive it home after, makes it all worth while.

good luck with it.

Cheers TingTongPJ, Im looking forward to it.

This is my third Subaru and each time i seem to have upped my goals each time (subject to funds).

Once the injectors are bought im sorted. Ive even downloaded a pdf of how to install the injectors them which should save a little bit of £££ before xmas.

Im also fortunate that i work for a large business that have their own fleet of logistics so we have our own 8 bay Wagon garage to do all the work. Plus a little help from the mechanics..... more like i'll be tea boy and let them do the work .

Just bought the mrs a pedigree spaniel to keep quiet about the cash ive spent on the car - she has no idea!!!

Thanks for the input TingTong.

You need to know WHO mapped it first time for them to re-map on the cheap.... Ecutek aren't likely to want people avoiding "fees"...

i know plenty of people using the open source map.

think you should think more about the mapper than the software (software is just a tool), any issues would be down to the mapper to sort out for you.

why don't you give andrew carr a shout ref open source. he is based in preston but will travel to you if required.
his id is andrewc or pm me if you would like his mobile number.
