Default Does anybody know this Scoob?

I've seen a green UK Scoob on Pistonheads for sale. Basically going cheapish due to mileage (not o.t.t) and a couple of body blemishes. Anywho, the guy selling would like a 205GTi, so out of interest I sent an email to entertain his wishes. Had some correspondances from his mate (dunno if the seller has internet access but his mate seems legit enough and actually writes using grammar and punctuation!).

We've exchanged a few details and he seems keen for a straight swap deal. Just waiting on more detailed info. like service history, mot/tax etc etc before I consider travelling to Weatherby (meet half way) to look at each others cars.

Does anyone know anything or indeed the owner of the Scoob? It does seem quite legit and after weighing up costs, won't cost much more than the Pug to run.

Link to advert... Subaru : Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000

Cheers

Andy

can't comment on the car but i would like to point out the 97/98 model impreza ecu cannot be remapped (i have a 98), this means if you want more power you need an after market one such as a apexi. just thought you might not be aware if you are planning to want more power, i said i would'nt now i'm 2.1 forged engine, turbo, injectors and a 6 speed conversion shortly power is so addictive !

No fella, appreciate your input. I was kind of aware that the 97/98 cars need a total new ECU. Basically it caught my eye for the price. I did assume (as most would) it to be a dog, but as said the owners friend who has been emailing me seems genuine. For a small 100 mile round trip it may be worth looking. Also, for a couple of jobs I may potentially have when work picks up (cleaning jobs), a Scoobs bigger boot could help.

So really would be looking at this as a stop gap Impreza until times are better and I can save up for a newage. Just seems a good deal for a straight swap. (it was me who insisted that no cash would be added, not the seller - otherwise I would sniff desperation on his part).

Thanks for the input

Certainly tempted if the only bad points are blemishes on the paintwork. I can live/deal with that as a project. Engine and drivetrain are what matters to me more. But would certainly need someone with more mechanical knowhow than myself to accompany me.

Just waiting for an email from the guy/his mate.

Yes because I needed the money. But this one would be a swap for my current car, and taking running costs into consideration there isn't a lot of difference, and I've survived until now. Plus a couple of possible jobs may require a bigger boot and 4 doors

Right, my thinking...

You - getaway driver (more bhp than me/Matt combines)
Me - analytical genius (poorly wrist, crippled otherwise)
Matt - erm... gimme a minute..............

LOL

P.S. Maybe, Matt driving, no infirmity or blindness....
I better carry the cash, as I'm used to umpa-lumping
You better stick to threatening behaviour and firearms duty !

Thanks for the offer fella.

If a deal is to be done, it will be this coming week as Rich has some time off to come look at it with me.

Good evening old boy, how the devil are you

Aye, I know about the piston slap from cold. Again one of the reasons I have a decent mechanic coming with me when I eventually get hold of the owner.

Don't know the lad with the green impreza but I know his mate with the red one (pictured in the background). They are young lads but genuine enough and they don't do silly things with the engines etc. as they listen to us older blokes

Doubt its a goer now anyways fella.

Emails went through myself and his mate (called Carl). Didn't reply until a good couple days apart, so tried calling actual owner (guy called David), and couldn't get and answer no matter what time I tried.

So sent him a polite email saying he was wasting my time and I wished him well with the sale.

His loss not mine
