Default WYIOC - Change of Venue

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are now in a position where we have to choose a new venue.

The reason. The Fenay Bridge have changed the focus of their business from a sleepy pub with good food to a 2-1 restaurant franchise that is now very busy at all times. This change or direction means that:

Kids are required to leave by 9pm
The seating forces us to split the group up into small tables
They do not take pre-bookings, so that we can arrange a larger area to eat in.
They are so busy that food waiting times can be in excess of an hour
The car park is also very full and now splits us up all over and means you have to watch what and who you are parked next to.
They are unable to be flexible enough to fit round us due to licensing & owner laws.

This was brought home at last night’s meet when two families were refused food at 7:50 because the waiting time meant that they would be unable to order & eat by 9.

The WYIOC is a superb and growing social club, and though the FB venue is both cheap and of a high standard, members’ interests come first & foremost and therefore a new venue must be found.

The Plan.
Several venues were mentioned last night as possible contenders. In keeping with the very first meet, I propose that we put suggestions on here for comment.

The venue must fit around the following;
Be central enough so that members from Huddersfield, Leeds, Wakefield & Pontefract (including many other areas, some as far as Barnsley) can make it within ~20-30 minutes drive.
Car park to be big enough to take 20+ cars. It must also be able to take cars such as Ian’s 360CS and other cars stopped by obstructions, steep entries or a crap surface.
Serves food and can sit 20+ people in decent sized groups.
Don’t mind us all turning up once a month on the Last Thursday.
Takes kids till a decent hour & is flexible to allow them to stay if needed.

Nice points to offer:
A good discount for members on the night or whenever we turn up.
CCTV or good visibility of the car park from inside.
Offer a good starting off point for a drive out.

This last one was proposed to offer a change to the normal routine. Therefore the proposal is to offer a pub or destination of the month whereby you can stick a pin in a map that does not exceed and hour(ish) from the venue so that members can meet up and drive out and back. This can be done every month or every couple of months.. simply suggest a drive out and go. If members are not interested (for whatever reason) they can stay at the venue and wait for you to return with tales of ‘daring do’ and fabulous roads and overtaking manoeuvres, whilst warming themselves on your exhaust shield, engine and brakes

OK.. over to you.. Suggest away..

To get the ball rolling Sticky will be paying a visit to the ‘Postoffice’ in Haugh and Chris will check out 'The Aspley' & 'Three Nuns' just up and down the road from the Fenay Bridge..

Al.

Mmm.. Maybe I shouldn't have put (sp?), maybe (tit?) would have been more appropriate?

Back to the topic!

3 replies and no help so far then?

Red Kite's a nice enough pub, but probably a bit too 'nook and cranny' inside, if you know what I mean, and it tends to get busy, and the car park isn't the biggest you'll find.

There's always my local. Always empty, plenty of decent 'group' seating, and a massive car park which is always empty.

The reasons for the above, in no particular order are; I live next door, the little ******* would nick anything that wasn't bolted down and guarded by an Apache gunship, I live next door, and it's a sh!thole.

But, leaving selfishness aside for a second, I would be able to crawl home every month

I'm gonna check out the Post Office next Thursday, if anyone wants to pop along we could have a mini-meet. Or I could just sit there, on me todd, Billy no-mates

Al, when you say go for a drive somewhere about an hour or so away, I take it you don't mean a Harry_Boy hour, 'cos that's anywhere between Gretna Green and Southampton. Damn those WRX's with warpdrive 'immitation cycle racks'

...and before anyone asks, only three pints of Stella, so no, I'm not!

The Village at Normanton springs to mind. Big car park, nice food, and a greenhousey bit where we can sit, chat, take the p!ss out of the Evo owners, and keep an eye on the motors. Kids only allowed in the restaurant, but I'll have a word with the management next week and see if they're flexible on this.

I could get to enjoy this 'research'. Need a driver though, in order to ...err, carry out a full and proper assesment of ...err all the possible drinks combinashunsh *hic*

Oi!! Less of the "officer, it was the bloke in the blue Subaru" finger pointing mate! After all, that really narrows it down a bit too much.....

'The Village' seems a good location to get to and drive away from for trips out.. but has 'Quiz Nites' on Thursdays. Not sure how that would affect us mind... 'The Car In Front, Is Mine' as a pub quiz team springs to mind...

Live bands Fridays & Saturdays, which could add a nice touch if we want 'a doo'.

Depends on kids and seatability..
Sticky, anyone.. fancy a research meet next Thurs to check it out and discuss the other researched options?

He should do. In 2009 it becomes the venue for the world famous WYIOC meet. So as a seasoned time travaller, he'll easily be aware of it. In fact, in 2007 he brings along the worlds first probability drive Subaru Wagon.

So he'll probably definately be probably aware of it..

A Scooby with an (I think you'll find it's...) Infinite Improbability Drive?

What are the odds on that?

Grammatiically I was correct, but I was hoping for a little leeway. Unless you're Douglas Adams' lawyer?

We all know Earths location But we need Normanton's location on the Galactic Chart..

Mostly Harmless!

It's just off the M62, J31. Normanton side. But you probably know that already.
