and this is pure Sticky & HB before they've been on the elixirs...
Dunno how busy the Aspley gets on an evening as I've normally gone by then - there's even a free paddling pool at the side It'd be a bit of a PITA going home them returning to 1/2 mile from w**k - and I'm not putting 3 hrs o/time in for the hell of it
FWIW I think (could be wrong tho') they have a fairly rigid seating plan inside so don't know whether we could "congregate" in an area... (I'll have to ask some of the locals when I get back next week)
Apple
PS isn't the Postoffice at Haigh rather than Haugh?

Apple, that'll be the Walnut Tree, which is now ANOTHER 2for1 pub, so will have the same drawbacks as The Bridge.
RUF, would that be a clue?
It must be a 1978 Mk2 Escort then, 'cos mine was very.

Andy, thanks for the detailed update, it was very useful. We await your recce with baited breath..
Sticky, Chris, Phil. Can't make Thursday because the missus is starting her pre, pre, pre Xmas late night work shift and my built-in baby sitter has a 18th birthday party to go to.
So, as the reason for going was to look at the Quiz night and how it could be a problem, ther's no point in going Wednesay just to accomodate me. Have a drink for me anyway. Don't forget to talk to the gov'ner and work a possible deal. I was going to hold him/her whilst Sticky applied the 'can we have 10% off' chinese burn.
I expect a detailed, Apple type report, on my desk the following morning.

That wasn't 20 quid, it was, er... 140 quid (Shh, Dave, if he can afford a friggin' RUF, he can afford £140, I'll split it with you)
I would ask for second go, but after Dave's been out first they're bound to be somewhat sloppy

In the interests of research , I've been to the Black Bull at Midgley tonight.
Plus points;
Decent sized car park that should accomodate us plus overspill area if needed,
Large inside to pub with areas that can be roped off for "private use" if they are informed beforehand,
Decent priced menu (Brewers Fayre) with what look to be some reasonable choices (I've picked up a couple of menus if anyone wants a "flavour" of what's available,
"Fairly" close to FB so not much difference in area - good access from m-ways and Hudds / Wakey lot get some decent driving roads - directions a doddle for Holmfield Arms crowd
Kids allowed and technically 10:30 limit but bloke behind bar said not a problem as long as they are well behaved / not running around shouting (that rules out HB & Sticky then )
Minus Points:
Not a 2for1 pub unless something can be agreed between ours and their "top brass"
Likewise for discounts unless can be sorted...
Apple
PS The place I was trying to remember was the Walnut Tree outside Wakey.
PPS The Aspley in Huddersfield is also a Brewer's Fayre pub

Looks like it's just me and thee on Thursday, mate. You do the talkin' and I'll buy the drinks. There's much more chance of the relevant manager type folks getting fleeced that way
