New Brighton Prom Rally Sat 24th July
hi all,
we are going to watch the prom rally at new brighton next saturday 24th July.
it is a really good day out, last year there were lots of 6R4's and scoobys to watch. you can walk around the servicing area and have a good gander at the cars. the stages are run up and down the prom and they change the format of each stage to make things more interesting.
this is the website address http://www.promrally.bun.com/Introx.html
it starts at 8:30am until 6:00pm, we were thinking of getting there about 10:30 ish.
i have spoken to a few others on the castles and mountains run that are interested too so put your names down if u fancy meeting up :
1 richie + rob
2 frank
3 john wrx
4 carl (afternoon) will save u a space

They are SAND pies Julian, not real pies!
Ohhh I remember the Prom rally, if it is the same as the old Wallasey stages, on the seafront with all the roundabous? From the mid 80's?
Was one of my favourite rallies, yeah I used to do a few stage rallies, this one was cool, all tarmac, tight twisties so helped us lower power cars ( 170 bhp / 129 bhp at wheel Avenger with trick bits ), only mishap a smashed limmy slip diff when clipping a kerb on a roundabout! Needed a trailer home and major work on LSD unit and diff gears!
Hmm also ran with 2 gears, one time, just for a change, to give the others a chance... !!
Well actually the propshaft had siezed the night before on way home and the vibration tore the tailbox off the gearbox ... the spare 'box I had was a slightly different year and the tailbox fitted, ( hadn't time to change 'box in total, so just changed tailbox) but the gear selector to gear rod was slightly shorter .... so I had 1st, 2nd if I HELD it in for a second or so before the torque threw it out, 3rd, and NO 4th.
Interesting comments were heard about the ex works grp 2 (sunbeam engine ) Avenger screaming down the seafront straight at 8500rpm in 3rd, at 95 mph ......
Needless to say, didn't win anything that day .... but still fun!
<whoops did I hijack? sorry> I'll tell ya 'all my Oulton park / Jim Clarke story next time ... !!!

MARSHALS NEEDED
Hi everyone,
Scoobess and I will be marshalling at the rally now, rather than watching from the sidelines.
DOES ANYBODY ELSE WANT TO BE A MARSHAL AT THIS EVENT?
I've spoken to one of the organisers and there is still a need for marshals. Previous experience is not entirely necessary as you will be assigned with people who are experienced and can show you what to do.
Typical duties will include closing the road off at 8am, crowd control (ensuring no nutters or dogs run onto the course), setting up the course change-over between stages (moving cones, bollards, arrows according to stage diagrams), keeping the course free of debris if bits fall off cars (you'll be surprised how often this happens!) and opening the road to the public at 6pm.
This year there are 10 stages giving approximately 45 stage miles. Stages are run in pairs, stage 1 and 2 being identical, 3 same as 4 and so on. Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 will run clockwise; 5 and 6 will run in both directions (!) and 7 to 10 are run anti-clockwise. Competitors start the first stage at 08:30 and run at 30-second intervals throughout the day, finishing about 18:00. There is no break for lunch.
Marshals will be required to sign-on between 6am and 8am on Saturday, with the day finishing around 6pm. It's a long day but you will be out on the course in the middle of the action.
If you want to be a marshal and be part of this event please send me a PM with your name, as I will need an idea of numbers.
THE CARS
Mike Oates will be there in his WRC S9 Scooby (ex Juha Kankkunen car I think!) trying to smash the Metro 6R4 dominance. There are 9 scoobies competing against numerous Metro 6R4s, Escort Cosworths, Darrion T90s and loads of other cars in lower classes. Overall there are 90 entries into the rally.
SCRUTINEERING
Scrutineering will take place in the car park in front of Fort Perch Rock at the far end of New Brighton promenade from 18:30. You will be able to see the cars at this going through noise checks etc. Marshals are also required for this, send me a PM if you require mote details. To marshal on the scrutineering you will need to sign on at about 16.30pm.
Cheers everyone,
Jason

I probably wont be leaving home until around 10, so would be closer to 10.20 for me....allowing 20mins from home. If you do go for an early meet up, save me a space at the prom. unfortunately i cant make an early one, but a 10.15 meet for 10.30 leave, i could squeeze..

I may well be up for it depending on the "alloy situation" Where you all planning on meeting and when (I guess somewhere near the fort? I presume there will be time for a burger and beer too One of the guys who works on my scooby is entering his car, the red scooby, if youve seen the posters. Could be good

So if you see a red classic wagon going round and round the roundabout it will be me deciding how much my sanity is worth.
