Hi,

Not a regular on here as I don't have a scooby, but I've been browsing around to try and find a 4wd rolling road up North (rare as rocking-horse ****e), and noticed you guys go to Well Lane a lot for Rolling Road days. Take it there are none in the North West, Warrington area?

So just wondered what the Well Lane bods are like. You know, do they do a good job? Any bad experiences? How do they strap the car down on the rollers? Front only or front and rear?

I went there went i was in the RS owners club, they do 4wd and used straps to hold the car down, although they had some trouble with the cossie i was in as it was 2 low and they couldnt strap it down tight enough to get a good test on it. They did a good job, we had alot of RS meets there.

Thanks for the response M0rf. In general, what do they tie the strap to on the rear of the car?

Reason I'm asking these questions is [flame suit on ] I have an Audi S3 (225), and a couple of lads on the Audi BBS's have attempted to have their cars dyno'd, but the operators have struggled to get a smooth reading. Basically, if the car isn't strapped down firmly enough, the Haldex ECU senses wheel slippage on the rollers, resulting in power shifting backwards and forwards continually.

So I'm concerned about what the guys at Well Lane are likely to tie the strap to on my car.

Regarding slippage on the rollers. Surely this must happen with mechanical diff systems too?

Yes we also have problems with some scoobs slipping on the rollers too, also suffer from inconsistancy in figures.

Prosport in Stockport have a pretty new 4 wheel rolling road

I had my WRX run on there, think they strapped it down front and rear but it slipped at first, adjusted the wheelbase to remove slippage.

Quite surprised at the lack of responses to this thread though. Thought folk would be a bit more helpful/informative. You know, enthusiast to enthusiast kinda thing. Hope its not because of any daft car prejudices.

for the the cossy i was in, they had the back doors open and a strap going through the back of the car to pull it down as far as posible. but the kit on the car was not standard and was larger than normal and they couldnt pull it any further down due to the skirts catching.

Al the best thing to do is give well lane a ring and speak to barry he does all the rolling road runs. I would of thought they would use your rear towing eye to strap the back end down. Although at the last scoobynet rolling road day they did have trouble with a RS4, something to do with the traction control i think. I use them alot and find them ok although i am only at 300 bhp unlike some of the guys on here.

hi Al,
I don't have a scooby either (waits for huge onslaught),
I have been to well lane for 2 rolling road sessios, I was un-impressed, Both times their rollers were not capable of stopping my wheels from spinning, and to top it all off, they charged me full whack both times and gave me naf all results.
I will definatley never go there again.
I have a Vauxhall Turbo thats 2wd, I can't comment on your 4wd Audi but I can give you my views on Well lane.
Terrible.

I had two "strange" dyno runs on two separate days.
1st had my car 289BHP 286lbft
2nd had my car at 297BHP 249lbft
The thing is it has been hard to explain the loss of torque and increase in BHP, the setup of the car was the same on both rolling road days (Well Lane 3/4).
Something must be out.

Alan J, The bit about inconsistant runs. My first run was 264 bhp, my second run a week later was 272 bhp and about 30lbs more torque on the 2nd run, no changes to the car whatsoever. I hope that answer's your question. Ady.

Do you think you/anyone could explain a rise in BHP and a loss in Torque?
