That's why we went.
We didn't have any problems with locals, but then again we didn't act like bellends and cause any trouble.
We only went into 4play for the statutory lapdancing club, and as I say it's meant to be the 'safest' of all the places when we went; we certainly didn't have any trouble while in there, but again, we didn't act like bellends and we didn't cause trouble.
My opinion is that Budapest was a lovely city, and we had a very satisfying walk around the city on the Saturday day to blow out the cobwebs. However the locals will not be especially tolerant of rich johnny foreigner coming along and causing aggro, and if you start any trouble you're likely to find yourselves quickly outmatched and with unsympathetic authorities. Treat the place and it's inhabitants with the respect they deserve however and you will find them very friendly.
One thing we did which seemed to be greatly appreciated by bar staff everywhere is we all learnt how to order drinks and say please and thank you in Hungarian. This is something we've done in most of the European weekends away my mates and I have done, and it always makes people better disposed towards you, along with making it easier to actually order drinks!

Get yourselves in a cab and ask to go the "island", there a couple of the most amazing clubs I have ever seen there.
One of the clubs had around 30-40 dancers all over the place, swinging high up, breathing fire etc, not smutty but ace. Then if you are still going, one of the clubs (I can't remember the name) opens it's doors at 5AM and that's also very much worth a visit.
In regards to lap dancing places, most are OK if you don't buy any drinks for the girls. From what I gather and what I was also told (which may seem pretty obvious while your sober and not distracted by the touts trying to get you in the club) is stay away from the lapdancing clubs that have no name above the door - these are the places your likely to get robbed and the Police won't do a thing as they are all MAFIA run.
The cabbies are thieving bastids there, and was shown a scam they all run, they basically have what looks like a key alarm fob, between their legs, whilst driving one click of the fob tells the meter in the cab to double, then triple etc all the way to 10 times. It can add up very quickly and after a club that opens at 5AM you will not notice. ALWAYS agree a fixed fare (off meter), if they refuse get another cab.
Other than that, have fun.
