Any chance the Thames could flood the House of Commons while they're in session

It woulden't actually be that bad if the Thames bust it's banks and flooded London, at least the rest of the country might have a chance of getting something.

Surely the rest of the country would be forced to pay the repair costs?

LOL, they have everything else down there, let 'em have the floods too!

On a more serious note, the government is now pouring in money to the affected areas.

Yet there are still folk in Doncaster struggling to do something to houses ruined in the floods in Doncaster and Hull three years ago..and they haven't received one penny.

And the floods along the east coast before Christmas are now quietly forgotten. A village near me was devastated, yet nothing is being done for them.

we cant cope with this constant wetness. it makes us important people upset and ruins our ornamental ponds and fountains in our front garden

Please spend a moment to think of the devastation that our yummy mummy's have to endure when doing the school run in our 6ft high Ranger rovers and X5's. I saw one mother actually get some water on her hunters the other day and poor little Giles was devastated to see his cherub like curls get messy in the abnormal wind conditions.

Please send money

I'm glad I had the foresight to have the moat on our main property widened last year.

All you'll get are endless news reports of how the South East has been affected. Be careful what you wish for!

This.

Makes me sick. The politicians didn't give a flying **** until Berkshire and Surrey got hit and now "Money is no object". Like you say, some people in Hull and South Yorkshire are still trying to sort out the mess from 3 years ago, and recent flooding along the Humber and Ouse wiped out villages, but they get f.a help. If not already, somebody needs to take one of these jokers to task on TV as the now concerned politicians tour the affected areas and ask them why they are only taking an interest now?

As much as I think Salmond is a joke, I'd say good luck to Scotland if they go independent; at least they might have people running their country who know the place exists North of Watford.

I can't stand the political flood tourism, all the political leaders are at it, rubber necking in the flood stricken communities to score some political points. Miliband again shows that he is out of his depth, literally!!

Makes me give a wry smile when I see folk crying about flooding...from their £2 to £3 million properties fronting THE THAMES FFS! Complete with moored £100,000 cabin cruiser!

Note to *********: if you leave on property at river level, expect the occasional flood, eh?

I see the One Show even does a special on it now FFS.

Meanwhile up North, life goes on as normal.

I have to agree with most of the sentiment on this thread. I have every sympathy for people affected by it, but....

The powers that be couldn't give a flying **** at a rolling donut, until it's on their doorstep.

What was done to help the folk up here that suffered from flooding in 2012? Square root of **** all.

Car park of my local pub; *

Another angle, not showing the car park though;

Not one single thing was done to help the residents and businesses, or the people that had parked their cars.

* The car park isn't the pub's, it's ran by the council.

Brings a new meaning to Pay and Display lol

Never mind though Micky, the North South divide is only imaginary lol

As I type thing millions are being pumped into the South right now, think Camoron actually said something like no expense would be spared.

Like we didn't see that one coming lol

No doubt.

I 'think' Camoron said something about getting the Army involved but didn't quite catch it.

As I said, the north and the east coast have now been forgotten. There are still people in Doncaster and Hull who aren't yet back in their homes after the flooding THREE YEARS ago...they didn't get one penny from the government!

And the flood barriers at Boston? Sometime in the future, maybe......

No expense spared? aye, right, if you live down south. THAT'S when you matter!

According to my parents...you could sail large boats up the River Severn past Bewdley. Over the past 30+ years it silted up so bad that only canoes can get up there without grounding and in summer it is shallow enough to walk across.

Locals have always said it should be dredged - bar the fishing/wildlife nutters. Consequentally it floods its banks almost every year. The buildings there are over 100 years old and never used to flood (otherwise they wouldn't have been built there ).

IN more recent years they erected some removable flood barriers...Heath Robinson springs to mind; the cost of erecting, maintaining and storing over a long term period these barriers MUST outweigh the costs of dredging.
