Question Duggan - executed?

Black man in London has just bought a gun and is travelling in a Taxi, Police follow him, stop the Taxi and shoot him.

The riots of 2011 followed.

Police say he was holding a gun, it seems like he threw it away.

What's your thoughts on this?

I think he was a gang member, a dangerous criminal and was going to be bad all his life. He lived by the gun and died by the gun - I guess he may have had no hesitation in killing someone, or why would he want a gun?

Have the Police saved many lives?

More riots and looting tonight?

Rioters should be shot.

As for Dugan who cares? He was the catalyst for many people dying and many businesses being destroyed.

No sympathy here.

Nail on head. Anyone who thinks it's cool to be a 'gangsta' should go and spend a few weeks on the south-side of Chicago, and see if they still think it's cool to be one of the 40 or 50 people a month there who catch a stray or well-aimed bullet playing the same game.

His mother is on TV now saying that he never did anything he was arrested for before, he was an innocent ............. why the gun purchase then? Maybe he was a legit arms dealer? She's just said that Duggans kid wants to know where his Daddy is - same as before he was killed then?!

Deluded scum who think they are above the law and that it's fine that he was carrying an illegal firearm. He got what he deserved.

No doubt his supporters are just drawing attention to themselves. A great way to hand police some intelligence for future use

I saw this on the 7 o'clock news and I just thought to myself "thugs." Even when the Mother was speaking into the microphones, there just seemed something thuggish about her.

Why is it these kinds of people (violent types I mean) always have a mother that swears blind their "little angel" has never done anything wrong no matter what evidence is gathered?

He had a gun he was a danger to himself an anyone else who's to say he wasn't gonna use the gun on someone else, there's a reason for him buying one. An I like the 'little angel' defence he must of got the gun coz the shop was out of paper weights

Know what you mean about the mothers. The gobby one on the news was his aunt, who obviously shares this view.

Would love to be in possession of the full facts of this case, but sadly I guess that will never be. I do seem to remember that the police story seemed to be a bit dubious on whether or not he actually had the gun on him or threw it away prior to the shooting. Don't know how credible the non-police witness statements were i.e. were they from Duggan cronies?

At the end of the day I do agree with the majority on here that he was likely a high-level gang member and did carry guns. As such, one less and all that.

Jury decided he was un-armed when shot but it must be incredibly difficult for the armed officers to make judgements in theses cases. As above, you must be mad to want to make a carrer in that branch of the police force.

A gun has only on purpose --- and that is to Kill...

He had a gun with him in the cab

and as has been said :: live by the gun, die by the gun

Hopefully other criminals will thing first before going equipped to kill....

I hope the police who pulled the trigger(s) aren't suffering from too much stress for removing this type of scum from the streets. They are the victims in this and should be given a bloody medel.

Quite an emotive subject guys.

Without being in possession of the full facts it's hard to make an informed opinion.

I suspect that even the coroner's information that heavily impacted on the jury's verdict would have been weighted to a degree?

Also, it'd be very hard for any juror who hasn't had the experience of having to operate with live amunition, and by a very strict Rules of Engagement to make the aforementioned "informed decision".

Having been in the position myself, as undoubtedly a percentage of you may have also, of having live ammo and strict rules of engagement, it is very clear that you need to continually assess whether the situation warrants the use of this lethal force as it progresses!

Gotta agree with the above though, my initial reaction was "I PREDICT A RIOT!" .

Whether he was holding the gun or not, if its true that he had just collected a firearm, was a gang member, was on route to do something with said gun..... Who cares I don't see what all the hoo hars about, why were there riots? He was a criminal in possession of a firearm, he got shot for his troubles the end.

Pisses me off when the police get bad press about stuff like this, they should be shooting more of the thugs who wreck peoples lives on a daily basis!

I would have shot all them dim wits shouting murder outside of the court with a potato cannon aswell for good measure, ring pieces.

A statistical fact is that rioting invariably only tales place when it is both warm and dry.

The 2011 riots only fizzled out because luckily for Capt Cameron it rained heavily the evening and night after the worst 24 hours of rioting seen since the last time the Tories were in power!

I dare suggest they would have been suspended from firearms duty pending the inquiry first.

One less POS on the streets, if your going to play with guns there's a distinct possibility that your going to get shot, IMO he got exactly what he deserved, he bought a gun and ammunition, instead of him shooting someone the police shot him.

Poetic justice.

Interesting that the family are demanding the Police change and do things ....... how about the gangs laying down their weapons? Hand their weapons in to the Authorities - THEN, we may have peace on our streets.

Police don't have to do anything except shoot to kill if you have a gun on, or around you - fake or not.

Interesting that one of the family members was hiding his face when on TV ..... why???

^^This pretty much sums it up.^^

If your going to fly with the crows your going to get shot with the crows, thats the basics of it at the end of the day.

As for the mother shes no different from alot of other mothers in the UK who can't see their little blue eyed boy doing wrong, Rose tinted specs and all that.

Doesn't this all revolve around whether he was armed at the time
Agree with the sentiments though, he appears, to have been a bad boy
