Default How not to sell a car to me!

I am on the look out for a Legacy estate, probably not going to buy until spring, but looking around all the same.

My mate rang me yesterday to say there was a 2005 3L car in the local rag just before Xmas, but no mileage on the ad so I rang the guy and left a message for him to call me if he still had the car.

He called this mornig before he went to work and the conversation went like this:

Me: Does the car have service history?

Him (mumbling): Sort of

Me: So it doesn't have full service history

Him (still mumbling): Some

Me(changing tack): What is the condition of the car?

Him (mumbling again): Alright

Me: Any dents, scrapes, dings?

Him (Still f**king mumbling): Not really

Me (changing tack again): What's the mileage?

Him (lucid at last): I'd rather not say, come and look at it first

Me (getting fed up): Either tell me the mileage or let's forget it

Him (after long pause): No

Me: F**k off then!

End of conversation!

FFS

He wouldn't tell you the mileage? What a muppet.
What year was it and how much was he asking?

You get some morons selling cars. I went to see a car recently, only to get there to find out it was a Cat C write off. Wasn't in the advert. It was only when I mentioned that the panel gaps were very uneven and the door wasn't closing as cleanly as it should and the $hit welding on some mounts and asked him what the story was. The paint inside the nooks of the engine bay was tacky to the touch too. I felt like asking for my petrol money back.

So somewhere between 60k and 100k would have been about right for the money. I'm guessing.

PM me his number. I fancy a giggle!

I would, but this gets weirder! His wife just rang me to apologise and say the car is actually sold so she has no idea why he went on as if he had it! WTF?

Leaving it well alone, he sounds a tad unhinged!

Not mine, it's a keeper (for now), it's a members car, and no I don't know him or have a vested interest just looks a better buy than mine was, if only I'd waited!

I only bought one car privately in my whole driving life. That was an Audi A4 that went bang after 10 days of buying it. I'd never buy a car of a private seller. Most of them lie. Mind you, not all private sellers are dodgy. Even then.

^^^ this seems a tad ridiculous IMO of course

I've bought all of my cars from auctions or private sellers and I've not had any particular nightmares, knowing what your looking at is 90% of the battle I suppose.

I've also bought a car from a dealer a long while ago which turned out to be the most hassle I've ever had with a used car especially when it came to selling the thing.

Lot of luck involved maybe

And dealers are well known for their honesty?

Before buying private do your research on what to look for and even go as far as paying extra for the AA or the likes to have a look and check it first.

OK as you seem to be exceptionally hard of thinking I will explain it for you! I am probably waiting until spring as I am happy to travel anywhere in the country to get the right car when the weather is good, but not when it is sh1te like now.

However (yes read this as if I am speaking it with a really nasty slow patronising tone because that is absolutely how I f**king mean it) this car was local so if it had been the right car I would have bought it now rather than wait!

I think even you might be able to understand that

I'm having the same trouble at the moment,

Looking for a 4x4 - diesel...

The main ""car"" website has hardly any private buyers these days only dealers and traders

The other site has the private sellers who think there dealers lol

Seen a couple i like, so i contact them for Reuther details ..

First question is Reg No and MOT cert number ....

Dealer 1

Its got a vosa reg cert and hpi checked all ok ....

Me - That's immaterial, i want the mot cert No and the reg number

Dealer - It passed the MOT, no advisories

Me - I'd still like the info, its a long way to travel to find its got problems...

Dealer - well it does need some work doing...

Me - What work ...

Dealer - Rear subframe has some corrosion, my mechanic reckons about £90 to fix ... and the rear discs and pads need changing ..

Suffice to say i walked...
If that was all it needed doing, why didn't the dealer just get it done ??

Second one was a private sale Advertised at £3750 no offers

(yet in the ad it says ono lol)

Mot & history were fine, nothing on the history

Within 5 seconds of arriving , i new it wasn't right...

It had been started, so it was warm, the windows were open (it was below zero!)

The radio was on - loud

The short (i didn't even want to go, but the vendor insisted) test drive identified a rattle from the rear right that wasn't going away, coupled with the constant talking from the vendor was enough to convince me it wasn't right

Suffice to say i'm still looking

Let's look at the facts here.

I post a thread abiout a weird conversation with a guy selling a car!

You think it is a dumb thread yet instead of just ignoring it like a normal person you felt the need to post on it saying how I was a timewaster anyway.

When it is pointed out to you that you hadn't really thought your comment through you change tack and comment that I was calling about a car that had already gone and yet posted a conversation about it.

Again you hadn't really thought that one through either had you as I posted the conversation before I knew it had gone.

Now you're just throwing random comments about self deception around. Why not man up and just post on the thread saying you think I'm a **** if I bother you that much, why all these barbed comments that end up making you look stupid?

At the end of the day you say you think I have a treatable condition and would I like a lionk, well no I wouldn't as I feel bad I can't recipriocate as there is no cure for being a dimwit!
