Only had a tracker once and that was for my gp 20 modified import RX7 for insurance purposes. Dont see the point really. Blackjax would be the way forward IMO

I used to think they were a good idea but in the last couple of months the company I work for have had two vans stolen, both had their trackers disabled within 20 minutes of being stolen, both disappeared without a trace. Not sure what brand tracker they use but it seems to me to be too easy to find them and disable them.

I do like the sound of the blackjax but how does it work. Ive read its anti hijack but your in bed asleep and someone either knicks the car with or without keys. How is it activated?

I used to install them and I wouldn't bother unless the car is worth 50k plus.
problem with most installers these days is they can't be arsed to fit them somewhere out of the ordinary, so most are pretty easy to find, lazy ******* fit them under the clock on a newage because it's easy and plenty of room, and even if they pick somewhere a bit harder it only takes someone like me 5 mins to find it and sling it out the window.
Waste of money, fine to protect against joy riders but someone who wants to take your car for more than a joyride will know what they are doing and have it out in 5 mins.
All IMHO of course.

Blackjax you have to basically put in a code for the engine to run, if you dont put the code in the engine will cut out about a minute down the road. So the would be thieves end up abandoning the car less than a mile from home.

No idea, but either way the tracker wasn't worth a carrot as the vehicles were stolen and not recovered and that's sort of the point of having a tracker isn't it?

I'm no expert. I do suggest you google it. People have a PITA disabling it just for things like an MOT. Its by far and away the best car security device Ive seen in use tbh

I would rather have one fitted then not, when it comes to security you can never have enough,I like to layer security so it gives a thief aggro to even think of stealing it.electric and physical immobilisers and good load sirens and horns.thats why thieves nowadays prefer to break into your house and get the car keys, less aggro.SJ.

Another vote for Blackjax.Ive had one on my last three motors. Two cars with the same Clifford concept alarm and then bought a standalone Blackjax for the Beemer.
I've had a tracker in the scoob(Monitor),but I've heard so many stories of them being either jammed or removed within minutes, that I wouldn't have another.
With Beemers being stolen left, right and centre I wouldn't have anything other than a Blackjax.
Its no guarantee that if your car is recovered, that it will be written off,so I'd rather recover it a few streets away...

Blackjax is a brilliant bit of kit imo, but again it's only a deterrent, if a thief knows its there and know what they are doing then the car will still disappear, very handy tho if you were to get caught short and somebody tried to pull you out the car or something similar, they wouldn't get very far and I myself would be straight in a car behind the bàstards and make sure they wouldn't get very far afterwards when it gets all of a few yards up the road and stops, I'd beat the ******* with anything that came to hand

It'll still give you a last know location, which is better than nothing. That and as i said earlier for disconnecting the battery, any tracker worth paying for will trip as soon as the signal is lost.

Unless you cant get insurance without one, don't bother. Had car with them and without them. As already mentioned blackjax is a good alternative, but by no means fool proof.
Trackers in my eyes are insurance your paying for, to lessen the risk to the insurance companies.
Try some of the insurance companies that advertise here and get a quote with tracker and without. I found that the difference in cost with and without did not cover the cost of the tracker.

Yourself or a half decent sparky run a wire from the (back of) fuel-pump fuse to a microswitch hidden somewhere under the upholstery. Flick it off leaving the car & back on when you're back in.
No-one going to drive your car away then and virtually impossible to detect unless you know its there. A variety of other fuses or relays could also be "intercepted" instead.
I used to do it to coil earths on old minis, which didn't have much in the way of a key stopping them being started up.
