Default Immigration .....

Been reading in the press about this subject,is it really out of control?.
Should our borders be closed?
Are immigrants a threat to traditional British society?
Will thousands of Bulgarians really come over in January?
Have the government got the powers to stop this or are we being controlled by the E.U?
Whats your view ...........

My opinion is that there's a lot of scare mongering about in the press about 'evil immigrants'.

I don't see immigrants as an issue (I'm one myself). I don't think I'm a drain on society, I don't claim/receive _any_ benefits, and neither do my kids or my Mrs. All I seem to be doing is paying a shed load of tax, and in my 12 years I've been to my GP's about 10 times, of which most were to register with a new GP when I moved.

I belive this country needs to stop...
Close the borders and concentrate on the people that are here. Sort out the born & bread brits, sort out the illegals and process those waiting the appeals etc.

Then sort sort out the jobs, nhs and government spending. Only once the finanaces are back on track then they should reopen them.

The above would never happen as there would be someone in afgan or iran going through the euro courts to force their way in.

Yes, but a lot of sheep are unhappy with the current situation could this not generate hate towards immigrants?

There is nothing wrong with immigration. It's the type of people that immigrate here that is the problem. We need hard workers not benefit scrongers.

It already has/is! The problem is the press/media and the government to some extent have demonised certain sections of society and now they are all tarred with the same brush by those not bright enough to realise when they are being manipulated.

Some immigrants are scum, most are not and some people on benefits are lazy workshy scroungers, most are not just as some homegrown white people are scum, yet most are not.

It's a pity that more people don't realise how the media controls and forms their opinions when their main agenda is to sell papers and pull in viewing figures which most of them achieve by being sensationalist and very economical with the truth!

Most immigrants I know are hard workers. Doing jobs, often several, that most Brits would refuse to do. My sister in law (a Brazilian here legally) has two jobs, she works in a school serving dinner to kids and then goes home to work as a hairdresser. She pays her taxes and is just as riled about the situation as the rest of us!

Sadly, it's not just the scum that are the problem.

There is now a huge strain on education, healthcare etc in certain areas of the UK. NO extra money has been given to schools to cope with an influx of immigrant children with NO English. And the schools receiving them aren't happy because they drag down the results. Which means that school falls down the stupid league tables.

Meanwhile, at home in Scunny, around half the car-crime, (speeding, no tax, no insurance etc etc, is now committed by Eastern European Immigrants.

Bulgaria? Romania?

Of COURSE they will come, in their droves.

And this government can do NOT ONE THING to stop them.

Why?????????

Because Lying Labour opened the floodgates to everyone else first time round, so we CANNOT now treat these EC nationals any differently, or we are DISCRIMINATING...and that, my friends, ain't allowed.

Batten down the hatches. If you think any of the present Eastern European migrants have been bad, hold on...you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Alcazar, thats very pesimistic, if only 50% of the car crime in scunny is immigrants then 50% of it is home grown talent. Which is worse IMO.

I find the immigrant children speak better English than our bunch of "Innit" generation. Lets stop being small minded and just realise everybody is human - we are all entitled to stand on a piece of soil on this earth IMO.

Go somewhere on this planet thats not the UK, cycle around and stop somewhere for a quiet drink and pitch a tent, lots of people in these European countries would invite you back for somewhere to sleep and feed you. When was the last time you saw a Brit do that to some strange foreigner on our soil? Christ, being British I could knock on a farmers door in the UK and ask if I can pitch a tent for the evening and Id probably be told to fek off. These 'orrible immigrants would probably say no, come in and sit by the fireplace.... Little Englanders are whats ruining this damn nation.

It just sounds like a lot of common sense is being thrown out of the window when it comes down to protecting our borders.

The Eastern Europeans coming in had, and have, NO ENGLISH! What part of that have you failed to understand?
And as such, they are dropping below the UK standrads and drag the school down with them.

The rest of that part is socialist claptrap.

Yes, happened to my mate and his wife, in Turkey.

When he awoke he was in a ditch, forty miles from where he had started out, naked, as was his wife, all their belongings gone, even their wedding rings, and he had a sore @rse, she had both a sore @rse and a sore f@anny.

Of course they can, but choose not to. Why, because there is a shortage of certain workers, and blocking immigration would highlight a woeful failure of government policy.

A firm I worked for had to import 3 Czech welders because there were none in the UK. An absolutely disgraceful situation.

The nut jobs might demonise the immigrants as benefit cheats, criminals etc etc.

Lets forget about them for a moment because hopefully we all know how stupid they are. Yes some immigrants are benefit cheats etc but anybody with half a brain knows that the actual number is small.

Most of the 'new age' immigrants I know work really hard, holding down numerous jobs and grafting in a way that I respect.

However there is a sensible, balanced discussion to be had about what the effect of this immigration is even if the vast majority are hard working.

I see two sides to it. On one hand for example the tenants in one of my properties are all Bulgarians. They all graft really hard, are honest, never miss the rent and I've never had a property that's been kept so clean. As the icing on the cake the girls are all fit

Many of my friends have similar experiences of their new age immigrant tenants.

Similarly the builders who work for me regularly are all new age immigrants. All really polite, punctual, flexible and hardworking. They don't spend half the day smoking **** and drinking tea

But then I see the other side. At my hospital sometimes over half my patients over the course of the day are new age immigrants. As are many other hospitals mine is struggling with finances, teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. Many staff who have worked there for over thirty years are having their wages drastically reduced.

I'm sure if I were a teacher in the same locality I might see the same when it came to school places/demand.

So where does the balance lie? Even if the immigrants are honest and hardworking does what they contribute neutralise what they consume?

Healthcare, education etc is expensive, do the immigrants contribute enough to make the relationship symbiotic?

Think about how much it must cost to send a family of three kids to school and provide their healthcare needs. Would a 'typical' new age immigrant family on £20-£30k a year actually contribute enough in taxes to make the maths work?

I don't know the answer, but a part of me is very doubtful.

Being another "evil immigrant" theres a lot of sense what has been said and some sanctions should be made... Smtn like in Australia? People need to realize it's not only in Uk this is happening it's in the whole wide world.. Literally everywhere. For some reason the UK moans the most believing it's all "their" fault not seeing their own .... The nationalities shouldn't be mentioned although i do agree theres less educated people form Romania , Bulgaria coming to UK nowadays... I always tend to have one rule when dealing with people. Your origin or colour has nothing to do about the way you are as a person . There's good and bad in every nationality. I'm glad that some folks on here actually admit that. I came to Uk 10 years ago , speaking 4 languages and having a degree in Uni... oh well , who am i to listen , they're all the "same" immigrants.

I don't need immigrants personally. Lots of the economy is a zero sum game anyway, things like land for example. Every immigrant needs a place to live and is another mouth to feed. Diversity also lowers levels of trust in society makes people more on guard and lonely. Things like white flight are very real, despite everyone ostensively being pro multi cultural.

Let's talk about the other side of this immigration 'problem'.

In my team (Modelling and Analytics) we have...

2 Lithuainians
1 Ukrainian
1 Russian
1 Czech
1 South African
1 Mauritian
1 German
8 English

We hire high quality skilled individuals, with Maths and Stats backgrounds. If we 'closed the boarders' we would have a significant problem.

My sector is not unique in this.

My experience is that people coming here do it because they can work hard and progress, and mostly they do.

Given that you tend to meet immigrants with work, your experience is bound to be skewed. How would you ever come across the economically inactive immigrants?
