Another ebay fees are comical thread.
If another rival decided to setup an auction site, and take on ebay i think they would do pretty well once established if the fees were fair.
Ebay's fees are becoming comical, the 10% final value fee is high in itself but they cain you at the other end with paypal as well so the final fees are more than 10%.
As an example i just sold an item for £250 + £7 postage, £257 went to my paypal where i got hit with £8.94 in paypal fees, i'll then have £25 in final value fees to come off so that equals a grand total of £33.94 in fees just for a £250 item.
They have you quite literally by the ***** and slap you in the face at both ends with final value fees as well as paypal fees.

When selling on ebay I give buyers the choice;
Save money and wire money to me direct.
Or, send more money to cover fees.
Usually they send more money because of course, everyone on the internet is out to scam you. Result for me.

Rival sites do exist such as eBid, problem is eBay are so dominant in the on-line auction business that they are the generally the first place that buyers go looking when they want something specific.

Due to this being a common practice eBay is no longer the place to get a bargain. No fault of the seller at all, it simply the greed of eBay.
Isn't Gumtree owned by eBay? They manage to survive on the revenue of the adds there why couldn't at least part of the fee be taken up by adds on eBay?

The recent change to also charge Final Value Fee on the postage caused a bit of a stink too.
I guess it stops people selling a £100 item for 99p + £99.01 postage but for the majority of people selling on Ebay it just means you get stung for more fees!
Google could probably pull off creating an auction site to rival Ebay but it would take millions of pounds in marketing to make a dent in Ebays dominance.
