Hiya peeps.
Going from London to Chester next week (possibly via Loughborough). Don't normally get a chance to do this journey so was wondering if any of you knew any lovely roads on the way that put the pleasure into driving? Don't want to be on the m'way all the time!.
thx in advance.

Drac, I can suggest a good run from Loughborough (well J23a on the M1) over to Stoke and then it's fairly nice x-country A roads over to Chester.
Let me know if you go that way and I can knock up some quite instructions.

That'd be great Chris. I may have to pick up my sister en route (she's in Loughborough), but if the route is nice I may go that way anyway (M1, A50?) rather than via Birmingham(M1, M6).
Cheers

Dracoro,
M1 to J26 then A610 and onto the A6 through Matlock and Buxton across to Macclesfield. (These are some of the best driving roads in the country IMHO) Mixture of tight and twisty with long sweeping fast corners and some bloody quick straights as well.
Then onto the A537 through Macclesfield (again a superb mixture of roads) to Knutsford and then onto the A556 and A54 to Chester.
I guarantee that this route will be a lot more fun than either M1/M6 or M1/A50 because who wants to spend a lot of time on dual carrigeways and motorways.

Cheers chaps
EvoRSX - Sounds like I may just do that. One question - how long will it take? (nottingham to chester bit) Do these roads get busy? I'll be driving on a saturday (or take that route on the way back on the sunday/monday as I'll not have time contraints on the way back).
Many thanks.

Dracaro,
The A6 route through Matlock etc gets a bit busy with bikers but that's half the fun, scaring them when you keep up with them!!!
There are no cameras on the fun bits of road but there are cameras in the town areas. The main thing to keep an eye out for is the police helicopter. They sometimes patrol the A6 with a helicopter to try and catch the bikers. Someone was telling me not long ago that during summer, there are normally about 3 major bike accidents per week along the road.
You may also come across the odd caravanner but these are easily despatched in a scooby/Evo.
There were a group of us a few weeks ago (6 Evo's and 1 scooby) that had a tremendous run across these roads and I got airborne a few times as well to add to the fun
As for timings, depending upon how you drive, you're probably looking at about 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get to Chester from Lougborough.

Cheers EvoRSX. I shall keep an eye out for the chopper! (sunroof open! my sister can keep a look out!).
BTW, not got a scoob but my Corrado VR6 is plenty fast/fun enough but I'll give myself the full 2 hours+ as I'll not be caning it all the way!
