Default Anyone buy Royal Mail shares?

As per title. I try to invest in shares as putting cash into the Bank is worthless. Can't make my mind up about Royal Mail.

Not sure whether to invest now, or wait till the workers start striking and hope the share price falls, then buy.

Tricky one to read, Royal mail.

DYOR and all that but, as mentioned on my original thread, a very close friend was involved with analysing the RM offer for a very large institution. The conclusion was it was a good buy and the business has legs.

Of course any analyses can be wrong and nobody has a crystal ball but on the basis of that info I will be applying for some.

Probably not the million that Zip suggested though

I put in for a few £Thousand.

They have guaranteed a 6% Dividend next spring - can't lose.

The only issue I had was how much to apply for as they will get scaled back. I was going to go for £75k worth, but I suspect that I would end up with none!

Then I thought £35k in wifes name as well as in my name ...... again, might not get any.

Then I thought £15k would probably be scaled back to £10k but at least you would get some. So £10k would seem to be the best bet to get your full whack.

That's £600 return in a Divi next spring. And some capital gains hopefully.

Money in the Bank is simply madness now and I've given in, buying a 3rd car for myself this week and desperately looking for more property.

It's true - the Tories with the calming influence of the Lib Dems has worked out OK.

But, I was going to do well anyway ...... wealth is created by people not governments, I can bend my ways and investments to suit the Govenment in power at any one time.

But I do like their attitude to the lazy benefit chavs

I don't really want to have to pay the 50% tax on the profit when I sell.
No doubt you don't mind though?

Everyone will be buying online within 5 years - and all those purchases need posting!

You keep your money in the Bank getting 1% ....

I never plan for a change of Government ... and, for the record, Labour never even collected any 50% tax - only the Tories did that as they took on Labours Tax regime.

Labour had no plans at all in the 50% rate - it was a scam to hit the Tories with.

I'm not daft

Thanks mate.

I was about to invest but now that you've told me that I'll cancel my application. Thank god you were here to stop me making such a poor financial decision, I really am such a fool when it comes to these things.

I'm just grateful we've got Warren Buffet figures like you around

There's one bit of crucial information that's missing from this thread - how do you sell the shares after you've invested in them?

Even the daily mail is saying the share price is undervalued. Hardly special knowledge.

You have obviously not picked up on the reports stating that selling them through the .gov website is expensive.

There are going to be many people who have never bought and sold shares before, who are interested in buying RM shares, those people would most likely be glad to know of inexpensive and easy ways to sell.

Why the change of heart then???

QUOTE FROM PREVIOUS THREAD

Quote paulr (In response to 'anybody going to buy RM shares')

No. Letter delivery is a dying business. Packets and parcels, they have competition.

Quote paulr

There was an independant postal expert the other day saying in 10 years, we will have 3 day a week delivery. Letters are down 7% a year. He wouldn't buy any shares.

What's it like to be poor Pete as I have no comprehension of that - it would be interesting to gain insight.

Most would only pay 18% on any profit over £10600.
