I've only been bitten by a hornet/wasp type of yellow thingy once in my life time. It's double the size than the usual British wasp. They lived inside our electric meter cupboard, which was in the porch of our house. It hurt like hell. My mum put some turmeric on the sting and stuck a plaster to it. Sting came out in next hour or so, and I was fine and dandy again afterwards.

Just had a Hornets nest exterminated by pest control chap.

Fecking huge things living in my roof.
Only come out at night when I put the outside light on, but enough to bother the kids.

By all accounts, hornets are pretty peaceful creatures unlike wasps.
Will only attack when attacked, and don't bother us like wasps.

I watched a nature program not long ago and i'm sure it were these hornets that attacked a wasp nest. The nest didn't stand a chance, the hornets went through the nest and just trashed and killed everything...Really wouldn't like to come across these things.

Was stung on face twice by wasps, disturbed their nest accidentally.
Didn't even see them coming, I was 'disfigured'' for a week lol - looked very peculiar lol

The hornet was on his own though and must got into car with me, felt something on my neck and put hand back - otherwise wouldn't have stung at all I reckon.

He just flew away after I'd stopped car and opened door

Looking at the reports, there giant hornets, not wasps or bees,

they must pack a wallop to necrotise the flesh like that

Had exactly this in my garden.

I had a wasp nest which I used to go out and watch, they never bothered me or went near the house they just flew straight out the garden and back. Went out one day to have a look and there was no activity at all. Assuming the wasps had moved on I split the nest to get a look at their handy work. When I opened it up there was bits of wasps everywhere and two very knackered looking hornets. They'd wiped the entire nest out.

Get stung by one of those nasty ******* and u would probably pass out from the pain, apparently its supoosed to be pretty extreme. They have moved to some parts of britain now too, where my girlfriend works has just had a hornets nest examined by the council and they have confirmed they are japenese hornets. Bad news for us and the honey bees

I wonder how easy or hard it would be to set up a few bee hives seeing as bees and honey are on a decline?

Shame to exterminate if they are not causing any problems. Hornets rarely go for humans unless they feel nest is under attack.

Got a hornets nest out the back at the minute, they're fine as long as you don't mess with them, i have to kill the odd one now and then when they get in the house, you need to make sure your going to kill it first try otherwise they get a bit p!ssed.

The ones here are about 3/4cm on average but you do get the odd mutant monster at around 5cm, it takes a fair old quantity of bug spray to drop one too, so I prefer to bat the ******* a good one to be sure.

A mates dad took a nest out of the loft recently that was pretty much half a metre in every direction and had over a thousand hornets in, brave man considering he's allergic and has to keep an adrenalin shot handy in case he gets stung by a wasp.

I don't know why people feel the need to kill wasps and hornets when they get in the house they do a great job eating pests and aphids in the garden. Trap them in a glass with a beer mat or paper and release outside. Unless you do have a life-threatening allergy, I don't see why people interfere with them. Wasps and Hornets generally don't return to the same nest site year after year as the new queens disperse. Unless perhaps a roof is extremely well situated for them with easy access. My father had a bee's nest in his roof this year and was going to get it removed for some reason. As the bees were causing no problem to anyone whatsoever I persuaded him to leave them alone.

Here is a Queen Wasp I found looking a bit droopy in the bathroom earlier in the year. I gave her some apple juice which pepped her up and off she went. I love insects me!

Ta. Fascinating creatures! Asian Hornets are potentially on the way up here from France. Not the absolutely massive buggers as pictured above, but bee killers and another threat to our bee population if they make it here. They are a species which will need to be controlled if they arrive.
