Clay bar... I got spots of paint on my old car (the paint drifted so far in the wind) and I spent 5 hours with a clay bar on the car.

Try a pressure gun on a small section.

That's what I'd do.

A decent wash ought to remove water based paint from decent paintwork, try it.

Ahhh water based you should be okay then. I'm not sure what mine was but it was paint used for spraying barns and it wouldn't budge with normal car shampoo and a wash mitt. I didn't like the idea of wiping my entire car down with spirits so opted for a safe clay bar plus it also removed other bits and fallout from the paint work.
