Anyone upgraded their TiVo ?
#1
Hi
I was wondering if anyone has upgraded their TiVo ?
I've now got mine working with 2 x 120Gb Maxtor disks - 84 hours
"Best" quality - 300+ hours "Basic".
Quite easy to do if you follow the instructions here:
http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/
The BBS is here: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...?s=&forumid=14
A couple of pointers which I have learnt painfully!
1. Get a single drive image from Rob Bellis - (£5 to FTP, £10 for a CDR) beforehand - mail: rob.bellis@up4it.com - 200Mb+++ file
2. If your TiVo currently has 2 hard disks, realise that you are 95% likely to have to start the TiVo again from scratch - i.e. setup/preferences/season passes will all be lost and need to be created again!
3. Delete all the recorded programmes off of the TiVo before removing the disks - this may increase the chance of being able to backup your existing setup and therefore avoid the pain of having to repeat the guided setup.
4. Shop around for the disks - prices vary considerably between suppliers - I got mine from Scan for £119.50 + VAT each.
5. If you do have to do the guided setup again with version 2.5.5 of the TiVo software, select only a handful of channels in the "Channels you watch" section - if you choose "All channels" (assuming you have Sky) - it will take over 11 hours to re-index! You can add them again afterwards which will then re-index in the background.
I hope this helps someone!
Thanks
Gavin
