Insurance fraud

I;ve read quite a few threads on here recently where unfortunate people have had accidents.. Lots of others jump in a express condolences with comments to the effect of 'hope you claim for none existant whiplash so you can do some more mods to the car'.
I'm sure it's not only me, but surely accidents shouldn't be seen as an opportunity to cash in. Thoughts?

Good point, however, if you have sustained any loss, be it financial or physical/mental (sometimes) suffering, then you are entitled to compensation when you are clearly a victim of some other person(s)'s error, deliberate or otherwise.
Fraud is a different matter and should not be encouraged, but if you were to receive money in recompense for some pain/suffering received in a whiplash incident, then there is no reason not to spend it on your car!

Very good point.
I will wager that the said same people advising to make a claim will be moaning about the cost of insurance for all.
Wanna hazard a guess as to why insurance is going up?

Insurance is a worry.. I also hate the idea that we're moving towards the good 'ole US of A in the amount of litigation we have.. It's the stealing from a company isn't really stealing mentality...

Your sister can still claim against the driver & if he is uninsured then the Motor Insurers Bureau will take on the claim, pay out then hound the driver for the rest of his life.
Its not a question of "making money", its a question of receive just compensation for wrong caused.

PTMW.. I agree that if I'm really injured and out of pocket there's no harm in claiming..
The question is where do you draw the line between a bruise on the leg for instance and being in an iron lung? One is clearly a valid claim, the other can, with the right sort of complaining and the right advice also be a claim.
I have no objection to one the other just makes me think fast buck and ambulance chasers.. To some people a 5 grand payout for PI is like a lottery payment and they will pursue that to the ends of the earth.. Where do we draw the line?

Alpine,
What I said to Phil yesterday was in no way infering that he or anyone else should make a fraudlent claim, I was talking from my own experience. In almost all cases of a rear impact whiplash is involved, maybe not the next day but it does come. I had a near fatality 12 years ago and am still suffering today through no fault of my own.
I did put in a big claim which I won, the money has now run out and I have to pay out of my own pocket for regular treatment.
Si.
