Default Locking wheel nut advice

Got a blowout in the Volvo a couple of months ago.

Got a puncture in it today, go to change wheel and appears tyre fitters have not bothered to put my locking wheel nut key back.

Can see this getting expensive, recovery to garage, wheel nuts drilled, locking nuts replaced etc.

Should the tyre garage foot the bill if they can't find the key?

I would imagine that you'd have to prove that the garage lost it, otherwise you probably don't have a case

Get a new nut from Volvo, instead of drilling. Or just go for the Italian method: hammer on a slightly oversized socket and use a bar to unwind it

Can you get replacement locking wheel nut keys from the dealer?

It's only a screw in the middle of the tyre (which happens to be the replacement for the blow out), so I could pull it out and use some tyre weld to get it home.

Go to the parts department. I can't imagine Volvo would be expensive, Porsche only ask £27.

It just depends on the style of locking nut, some dont have an external hexagon so hammering on and undersize socket wont work. Is it worth visiting the people who forgot to return your unlocking device I wonder? You might even give them the problem of getting the nut off!

I had this problem a few weeks back on the wife's Merc, tried the hammering socket thing with no luck.

I called the AA in the end, made the guy a cup of tea and let him do them.
