Smile A question for any engine builders/tuners on here.

It's only a quick one,

Are Weber & Dellorto sidedraft carburettors interchangeable?

Specifically, can I bolt a pair of 40DHLAs onto a manifold that currently wears a pair of 40 DCOEs?

I do realise there will probably be some fiddling to be done with linkages and fuel supplies etc.

I think you would be better talking to Alan Jeffery of enginetuner. I believe apart from tuning Subaru's he is also into classic performance cars.

Do you mean that you are not certain that a Dellorto wont bolt straight onto a Weber manifold. You cant tell without trying it really, you may well need a Dellorto manifold to do the job I'd say. You could try measuring the distance between the mounting studs of course. Does not mean that the bore sizes of the carbs are the same.

Are the Dellorto's that much better than Weber carbs?

Although back in the day, the belief was always that Dellortos provided better fueling in the middle of the rev range, I personally have absolutely no idea whether one is better than the other Les.

But I do know that secondhand, Dellortos are definitely cheaper

Yes all understood.

I changed my race engine to Lucas fuel injection from Webers, I used to buy s/h bits like that from the big race teams during the middle of the week for very cheap prices. It never took long to collect enough bits to make something work. I found that the slide throttle bodies all fitted directly to the manifolds that the webers were mounted on. If you are lucky, the Dellortos might fit as well, can you try one of the Weber rubber and springy steel mounting devices which go between the carb and the manifold against a Dellorto body?

Oldun's post is correct, they are interchangeable, in terms of manifolding at least
