This is starting to become worse that the millenium dome!
The stadium is now years late.
The government has already given the FA £120M of public (lottery?) money, even though nothing has begun yet. I think that a lot of this money has already been spend (on what?)!
There was a deadline months ago - that slipped to the week of the recent elections. But how convenient as the government isn't supposed to make major annoucements during polling, so it slipped to the next week. Oh, but that was a bank holiday, so it slipped again to the Tuesday. Then Tessa says that funding has almost been agreed, and it will "only be a matter of weeks".
Now things are imminent, and Tessa-babe will put us all out of our misery on Thursday.
However, according to teletext, the FA signed a secret agreement which means that if the national stadium isn't built at Wembley, the Cup Finals will still have to be held there until the year 2019 - THIS IS IN A STADIUM THAT IS CURRENTLY OVERGROWN AND FALLING DOWN!!
Tessa Jowell came up with her "Tessa's Tests"
The FA secures finance - well they have failed miserably so far with Barclays pulling out and WestLB stalling.
Value for money - YEH RIGHT, so the Birmingham bid is HALF the price of Wembley, and has had agreed funding for several months. The Wembley bid has TRIPLED in price and has NO funding!!!
Wembley National Stadium Limited provide a report - WHAT? Into there supposed unfair preferred-bidder status to Bovis-Multiplex
WNSL make some changes to the way it is run - Arrghhh! what kind of "test" is this???
It is a shame that one of the tests wasn't "have a stadium that is centrally located near a good motorway and train network, and in close proximity to an airport that has land available as well as funding".
The government pulls all of the strings, however, whenever they are pressed, they say "this has got nothing to do with us - it is the FA's decision"
This is the face of the next Mr Byers...
How do they get away with it???

We went through this with the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
We still talk about even though it's been built for years. The "Wembley" story will live long...

Its a total farce. How come the Koreans can build a nice big stadium (albeit a 42k seater) with a floating pitch that they can take outside when they feel like it ? And all for half the price of the new Wembley ?!
We couldn't organise a p*** up in a brewery
Lets get some friendly Korean chaps in to build it for us

It's depressing, isn't it?
Euro entry: 5 key tests.
Can we build a stadium: 5 key tests...
Everyone's so scared of getting something wrong that they find it easier to do nothing. *sigh*.

That stadium in Korea (I thought it was in japan??) is SOOOOO cool......leave it outside to use the indoor bit as an athletic stadium, play matches indoors or our - the pitch is on a huge tray that floats like an air hockey puck, and can be moved easily.
Do they leave out in the rain to get sunlight & water?
We are a f**king joke!

Well it looks like the FA will be GBP620K worse off very soon, as Birmingham and Coventry are claiming compensation because the FA obviously never intended the stadium to be anywhere except Wembley!
See http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/...00/2002521.stm
Oh, and just slipping back to the Millenium Dome again (deja vu!) - the GBP200M loaned to the dome from the Lottery to stop it closing down in mid-2000 looks like it will NEVER be paid back. Another loss for the "good causes".
Anyone know how you get a job in the government??

...and another thing!
The proposed Wembley stadium will have 90,000 seats and is supposedly going to cost GBP715M (although by the time it is finished, i bet it will be far more).
This works out at EIGHT THOUSAND POUNDS PER SEAT!!!
What on earth are they making the seats out of???
At that price, it should be a ninety thousand room stadium, with every single spectator getting a private lounge, sofa, mini-bar, bathroom, trouser-press etc each!!!!
What on earth is going on???
