Motor home hire ?

Motor home hire ?
Two young kids and an enjoyment of driving, I'm thinking of hiring a motor home for a few days and touring the south.
Looking at the prices on local sites, it's like £800 for a week, with food, fuel etc on top .. that's crazy.
Anyone know of a good rental, or own one they rent ?

Are you thinking VW camper type thing (just had a month in ours with 2 kids) or big motorhome?
A few places rent vans out like ours; VW California. No loo or shower but easy to drive and park and relatively nippy too.

We just took a potty for our 2 year old girl!
Some of the aftermarket VW conversions have a loo but they aren't generally rented out.
Motorhomes are a lot bigger inside but bear in mind that you'll more or less be driving a lorry if on country lanes! They also tend to be darker inside (I find most claustrophobic) and often struggle up hills.
But they'll have loads of facilities - proper cooker, shower, loo, beds you don't have to make up every night, etc, etc.

Herself took a notion at the end of last summer (typical last minute thinking and wanting to go away now of my woman but that's different story !!!) so I had a look around The Net for local campervan hirer's and seller's, she wanted one so we could go away and take the 2 kids and 5 dogs but there weren't too many places in Northern Ireland but you might have more luck in your neck of the woods. The cheapest one's were 4 berth jobbie's and cost £125 a day so worked out quite dear for a week or more but some places offered discount for longer hire period's and most didn't allow dogs.
In the end we didn't bother as it was going to be costly but ever now and again she says that she still wants to hire one or even buy a "cheap" one, maybe one day...

Must be a wife thing cause mine has been on at me about buying a VW camper for us to holiday in. This is without ever trying it mind you. I did say we should hire one for a long weekend (quite possibly a long weekend at the side of the road after breaking down if their reputation is anything to go by!).
She hasn't mentioned it for a while so I think I've got away with it for another year

I would not expect the driving of a mobile caravan to be very pleasant. Still at least you have your own accommodation with you-like a snail really
I reckon I would prefer the option in the post above.

He'll have a look in the morning and see when he has one free for a few days, although he says that he nearly fully booked, but he maybe able to find a few days somewhere. Also, depending on the size of your dog it should be okay.

0-60 in 12s for ours, 4x4, easy to park. Not quick but it happily keeps up with most traffic. Nippy up hills too.

Right, just heard back from my mate. He's only got his 4 berth available on the 13-15th Aug @ £495. This is a brand new motorhome and it's peak season hence the price!!! He does have more availability from early September though. Sorry I can't help further.

Well, three nights actually lol. I thought it was a crazy price too, but he is just about fully booked so I guess it must be par for the course. When he told me the price I didn't bother asking for a 10 or even 20% discount!
