Difficult to believe isn't it? I remember that firm from when I was in the Service.

Not surprised private companies exist to make as much profit as the clients will allow them

Yet again this reflects badly on the Civil Service. It is their job to check Invoices carefully before payment. I doubt they had enough competent Civil Servants to do this job and Invoices were just nodded through.

Incompetence alone would be worrying enough, I hope something more sinister was not afoot. Someone signing off cheques and then splitting the proceeds. Am I being too suspicious?

Once you're in with a public sector organisation, its all too easy to fleece them. Procurement teams need much better training.

i am sure the civil service arn't perfect, but it seems a bit churlish to lay the blame on them when it looks like fraud has been commited by G4s

they are civil servents not policemen

yes they could forensically exam each invoice, but then they would need triple the man power

So, it's not the fault of the company breaking the law, but the fault of the government department with the budget cuts for not detecting it? Are all crimes the fault of the victims?

It's almost completely their fault; just saying how many private firms utterly fleece public sector clients. But if procurement was more savvy, they'd get away with a lot less.
