Default Got caught speeding....maybe?

This morning, I spotted the buggers at the last moment and looked at my speedo straight away...35/36mph.

Now I accept I was speeding, but I'm not 100% sure what kind of unit it was they were using. First officer was holding it up to his eye, like a golf pin seeker and the other guy looked like he was spotting the rear reg numbers and writing them down. Only thing is, when I came back the other way, they'd pulled a van in and were talking to the driver, which leads me to believe the van was doing silly speeds, or he was either not wearing his belt, or his tax was out.

What's the most likely outcome? Anyone know what the unit the policeman was using?

Don't mind if it was a speed radar(I got caught fair n square), I just hate waiting without knowing I'm getting done!

Sounds like a spot check with a radar or laser gun and they'd have pulled you if they thought you were speeding. Otherwise I think they need photos to prove it?

Either way just cross your fingers that a NIP doesn't get posted to you in the next couple of weeks.

Also if you speedo was showing 35 you were probably doing 32-33 at best so probably not far enough over to warrant a ticket.

Speed cameras and radars are allegedly unreliable over 170mph.

You now know what speed you have to do in future

There's been an operation on around Nottingham where only commercial vehicles have been targeted.

From what I've seen, the speed is used to start a fishing trip, insurance checks, MOT, tyre depth, diesel dipping, overweight cargo etc. This could only be a local thing, rather than a national campaign.

If you were speeding, yet they only pulled a van, chances are they aren't interested in what you were up to.*

* Chances are, I'm also wrong and you'll get a NIP in the next couple of weeks.

Normally they would have stopped you there and then and given you a roadside nip. If they didn’t stop you I would be pretty confident that they are not going to prosecute, unlike the scamera vans that just record everyone speeding and automate the whole process.

As scoobeenut has said they would have given you a tug there and then if you were speeding and they wanted to prosecute - I found this out personally... twice!!
I assume you were in a 30 zone as well? If so, and IF you had been caught, you would have got offered the speed awareness course (providing you haven't been on one in the last year/2 years (can't remember which one it is)). Apparently in a 30 zone the cut off for the course is 44mph. I was annoyingly caught at 45 the first time and 46 the next!!

I'm in the same boat , going into Swansea on sunday , dual carriage way , road goes from 40 to 30 and I didn't see the sign , was going about 35-36 , seen the camera van and braked , so hopefully he was pointing at the car next to me in the outside lane and not me in the inside , doubt it though !

Oh well I've had a clean licence for about 8 years , it could about to become dirty !

When I come back in the next life, I plan to belong to a certain group, who when gets stopped for speeding at double the limit, smelling of narcotics, with no MOT or insurance, & someone else's tax disc, only receives rather harsh words from the officers & is advised to obtain the appropriate documentation in future.

(I do apologise for not breaking up the above sentence)

They need photo proof unless they issue a penalty on the spot I believe. It's the cameras vans you have to watch out for!

You do know the ones in the roadside vans are really nice!
Every time I've thought they have had me I turn around and go ask them...never had a problem with them checking and telling me......saves on a 2 week wait

Here, they've recently lowered a speed limit from 60 to 50.
A while back I went up the hill, three lanes with overtaking, so nipped out to pass four old people, in vans with windows, doing around 35-40.
Got round the bend at the top: there's the scammers.

It's now been 18 days, so they obviously didn't get me.

I'm also waiting to see if I'm up for a second one poodling along in the middle lane of the M1 decided to overtake the car infront. Pulled out (Didn't indicate as the road was empty) powered up the hill past him and as I hit the hill and came back in I saw the van on the bridge. Sandwhich in mouth I saw the satnav saying 84. came back in to the middle lane and slowed down - didnt slam the anchers on as new breaks & didnt want the driver behind going crazy.

I'll need to wait 2 months to see if anythign comes from it.

"This info may prove useful to anyone trying to avoid getting points on your licence!
Was sent this by a member of another forum"
I've not had to try it as yet so can't verify that this works, but could be worth a shot!

In case you know anyone who is ever caught for speeding:
Just thought I would share this with you, as you
know I work in the speeding fine department in *********
Magistrate's Court and in the course of my investigation into 'fines, their payment
methods and how points are automatically added against drivers licences'
w e discovered something very interesting 'If You Get a Speeding
Fine.'
This has been tried and it works. I have tried to send this to everyone I know. I
know for a fact that it works so if you ever get in this
situation, you have an out. We discovered that this procedure works
nationwide.
Read it and try it, you have nothing to lose but the points on your
licence.
This is how it works:
If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light or whatever the case may be,
and you are going to ge t points on your licence, then there is a
method to ensure that you DO NOT get any points. When you get your fine,
send in the cheque to pay for it and if the fine is say,
£40, then make the cheque out for £41 or some small
amount over the fine. The system will then have to send you back
a cheque for
the difference, but here is the trick!
**DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHEQUE!!!** Throw it
away!! Points are not assessed to your licence until all
financial transactions are complete. If you do not cash the cheque then the
transactions are NOT complete. However, the system has got its
money and is happy and will not bother you any more. This information came to
our attention from a very reliable computer company that sets up
the standard database used by each county's
computing system.
Good luck and share this with all your friends
and other family members as
well!!!

Lol I found it easier just to get points in Scotland, go to the sherrifs office to pay the fine and have the points hand written onto my license...
Got pulled the 6 months later and when asked if I had points I said "yes 3" to which the officer politely informed me they weren't on the system so "must have been over 3yrs old and been wiped!!"
This only worked because I had applied for a new license due to change of address and losing my old one with the hand written points on! When my fresh license came through it was clean as a whistle!!!

You'll just have to wait,,,like the rest of us do!

I got "caught" by 1 of these a year ago doing 38 in a 30 - plod with camera up to eye and another writing reg on a clipboard.
A week later i got called into bosses office (it was in a works van i got caught) and was told he'd had a letter stating my "crime" and this just a warning.

I think to prove you were speeding they have to have evidence (photo) not just some handwriiten notes on a piece of paper
