Default BT - Robbing bar stewards

Been with bt for 7 years.
decided to upgrade broadband to unlimited.
******* have landed me a bill for £160 for cancelling contract.
Bt operator failed to mention anything about fees/contracts.
Phoning them tomorrow.not happy.

It's a upgrade so you should not have to pay cancellation charges

Would also threaten them with leaving and getting a better custom from elsewhere

Hang on, the minimum contract is 2 years, so you're well past that, how can it be for cancelling the contract? It's free to leave an ISP in the UK if you are out of contract, so this must either be a misunderstanding or a fee to upgrade. If it's the latter, just ask for a MAC code and go elsewhere.

I just upgraded on Friday, I've now got free anytime calls, half price mobile calls and unlimited Broadband, but it's costing me £5 a month less + less monthly call costs. Tied in for another 12 months. Also pushed for a Sainsburys voucher, but they are for new customers only

BT automatically sign you up for another 12 month contract at the end of your original contract. You have to give them 1 months notice that you wish to cancel before the end date. I can't see how this is legal but I'm not with them.

That's not entirely true. I got out of contact years ago, and I said that I was never given notice, nor did I agree, or sign anything to extend my contract.

They cancelled it there and then. Gave me a reference number in case I was billed so I could claim it back.

I only use BT to supply me the line so I can use unlimited Orange broadband at £5 a month. If they were to try and charge me for not using it enough, well, the less said the better lol

We have just signed up for broadband/phone and bt sports for our pub, all was going well until until the first bill landed, TWICE THE AMOUNT that it should be, they said it was for connection charges and postage costs for there hardware which they failed to mention during our phone call when ordering it, they are now reviewing our call

So it was true.

I didn't say that you can't get out of it. Only a 'thicko' would think that BT were in the right!

Sorry to dig this up again, but rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd stick it on the end of this one.

I'm trying to establish how or even if, I can get BT Sport. I don't have access to Infinity, and I have a BT Vision box. I was told that I could get BT Sport, but one of their agents has just told me I can't, have a read of the below:

We are now routing you to one of our chat team...

Welcome to BT, the most complete broadband provider. You are now connected with Kerry

Mike: Hi Kerry

Kerry: Greetings

Kerry: How may I assist you with your order today?

Mike: ah well, your website is a bit confusing. I can't get BT infinity (i.e. fibre), so how will I get BT Sport channels? Will they just come via my normal aerial?

Kerry: You would be able to stream the action to your PC or Mac, or use the BT Sport app to watch it on your tablet or smartphone.

Kerry: Otherwise If you have a satellite receiver box and viewing card, you can easily take BT Sport from us.

Mike: I don't have a Satelite receiver

Mike: I just have a BT Vision box

Mike: which gets it's signal via an aerial

Mike: hence the question

Mike: will I be able to watch BT Sport on my TV or not?

Kerry: Do you have BT Infinity?

Mike: no

Mike: I can't get it either

Kerry: No you cannot get it via your TV airel

Mike: oh

Kerry: You can only stream...

Kerry: Is there anything else I can help you with?

Mike:

Kerry: i...

Mike: so I've just signed up to a service that I can't use then.....

Mike: the guy I spoke to the toehr day said I could get BT sport

Mike: never said I'd have to sit and watch stuff on a laptop

Mike: https://www.register.btsport.com/

Kerry: Oh right

Mike: if you read that page, it says you can get BT sport via TV Aerial

Mike: it's all a bit unclear

Kerry: Well its not costing you any extra...

Mike: that's not really the point

Kerry: Yeah -- you need Infinity to watch it on the TV....

Mike: I signed up again this week for another 12 months, as I wanted it on TV, and was told I could get it

Mike: but your saying I can't, some parts of the BT site say I can't, and some say I can

Kerry: Otherwise we offer it via your TV ariel in certain multicast areas but I wouldn't be holding my breath as they are far and few between

Mike: oh, muticast aerials.......

Mike: errr, isn't that just a normal TV transmission?

Kerry: Err no its not im afraid hence its scarcity

Mike: okay

Mike: think I need tyo ring up

I though all TV transmissions from the likes of Belmont were multicast, rather than Unicast.

Does anyone know if I'll be able to watch BT Sport channels via my BT Vision Box when I don't have Infinity?*

* - not sure why I need Infinity as I'm getting 19-21Mbit/s over metal anyway.
