I read something by the director recently with him basically mocking all that was good about the original Superman movie. This made me dislike him and this movie without even watching it. Someone who doesn't understand the simplicity behind a film making you just feel good shouldn't be making movies imo.

Looking forward to this (actually looking forward to taking my two sons, they even thought Ironman 3 was cool)

So I think I won't be disappointed

Most of these types of film are utter sh1te, but I have a sneaking hope of this one

But if my kids enjoy it, which on previous form they will, happy days

It was going well until the action started and then it was boring. Just the same old stuff we've seen countless times before (i.e. entire cities getting wrecked but nobody seeming overly bothered by it). The Matrix introduced the idea nearly over 10 years ago and we were in awe. Transformers took it to a new level and by about the second Transformers movie we were bored of it. Then came a plethora of other mass destruction films and I'm now at the stage where, as a movie goer, I feel quite indifferent to the mass destruction of a city and the subsequent loss of life. That's a shame because the viewer should care about such things!

Couldn't agree more. To me that is what marked Nolan's Batman trilogy and especially The Dark Knight out from the crowd.... it had all that, but the characters were developed and effect the villlains and in some way the heroes had on the lives of normal people was palpable. Complete fantasy obviously, but with many strands of the story rooted in the every day human psyche at the same time. That and of course Batman is not a true superhero in that he doesn't possess any 'special powers' so it doesn't fall into the category of complete nonsense... never did get the whole superhero thing!

The whole movie thing has been done to death though over the years,I don't think is much left if anything that has not already been shown as a movie, from horror movies, car movies, gangster movies, superhero movies, war movies, end of the world movies, its all been done.

Agree on the whole repetitive nature of superhero films, Batman aside.

The last decent superhero movie I watched (again, Batman aside) was Unbreakable, that was a while ago!

Exactly this

It was promising at first because the characters were all well played ie Russell Crowe, General Zod, Kevin Costner etc.

Then as you say it descended into mass destruction that we've seen countless times before and frankly is getting really boring.

I thought Superman might use his superior intellect to defeat such formidable enemies but no.

It could have been so much better. The Batman trilogy still stands out as the best super hero interpretation of modern times.

That is my attitude to most films, ie it's a good way to spend a couple of hours with my boys eating popcorn.

It's just that given the potential of this film ie the top level producer, director and actors it built up my expectations that perhaps this film could be something special.
