Yesterday was a bad day. After 15 years my beloved cat, Tigger, passed away in her sleep. I am devastated and don't know what to do with myself. I had the cat from a kitten when I was 6 years old and has always been there for me.

Any tips on how to move on as I just feel like a part of me is missing now.

Get a new kitten.

Sounds like the cat had a nice long life, and probably enjoyed every minute. We've got 3 cats, and will be devastated when they 'move on', but they live such a life of Riley that it won't be too sad.

If you don't want a kitten, get a cat from a rescue home...

Sounds like she had the best life she could possibly have! Be happy you owned her and she had such a good life - we always plant a rosebush or something when one of our pets pass on, therefore something is always there to remind you of the happy times.

You'll be sad, but what better than to give a loving home to another animal? We've got two 3 year old cats who are brothers from a rescue centre, and I know he/she will never replace Tigger, but you can give another the great life Tigger had...

I saw my little kitten get run over, it was the most disturbing thing I have ever seen, it let out a little "meeep" before it's tiny body gave up. Poor timmy

when my nans cat died she had it presented in a display case- some of those can look a bit creepy but hers just looked like the cat was sleeping. anyway- she was happy and talked to it all the time.

Was travelling down the a329m from Bracknell to the M4 earlier and just before the M4 slip road, there was a cat that had been knocked down in the inside lane just lying there. I feel sick now, it really hit me.

I have 3 cats and have had one 3 yrs ago that was run over so i think thats why it hit me like that.

geoff - as Jen has said above, think of all the good times you have had with the cat and it will get easier in time.

As well as that, take the Clio out for a good ragging !!

I don't think that would of worked for timmy, his mangled corpse preseted to me would give me a panic attack most probably leading to me breathing into a paper bag. I got timmy from some travelling folk one of which looked like Les Dennis!! poor timmy

Thanks for the advice guys, I know it will take time but I'm sure I will come to terms with it all over the next few days. I think the cure will be to go out and get a new cat, perhaps I'll call it Tigger MK2!

Geoff you can't force a new cat to be like your old one. It will be its own cat with its own personality if you buy another just to keep the memories alive you may find yourself dissapointed and end up resenting the new cat. The cat will pick up on this and be pretty miserable.

You dont want to spend your life comparing Tigger Mk2 to Tigger, you need to break away in a fresh direction. Maybe Get a Dog, or something exotic - a snake or iguana ?

I know what you are on about mate, my mum had her cat put down a couple of months back, really hits home, I think its more cos its part of your history and it means you are getting older, did for me.

Get another cat and in time you will adapt and it will be a similar situation, one cat is much like another at the end of the day.

Strangely enough, I not all that fussed about our dog, ill miss it but not like the cat.

Know how you feel. My cat was run over 4 years ago. Had a knock at the door and a lady holding his collar asking if that was mine. Not personally, obviously - it would be a smidge small.

I followed her down the road slightly where my cat was being tended by a group of on-lookers - they'd put a hat under his head for a pillow and a coat on top of him to keep him warm. Managed to pick him up and get him inside to the lounge before he died in my arms.

There was a hole in my cat-family as I had 4 siblings - 3 boys and a girl. There were now 2 boys and a girl. About 6 weeks after that (I was also going through a break-up with my fiance and moving house, so not an un-stressful time) someone came into work asking if anyone could give a kitten a home. I jumped straight away and thus I got my little kitten. So am back up to 4 cats but nothing will ever replace the cat that died.

Strangely he was the cat of whom I had taken the most pictures as well.

It takes time but give yourself a while to properly move on from the other cat so that a new one can be accepted for who and what they are. Rescue cats are always looking for good homes, which yours certainly sounds like.

I had a hamster that I loved dearly, ladyboy it was called.
It wasn't until I found it's cold, lifeless body in it's little woodchip pile that I remembered I hadn't fed it in 7 days.

I was very upset about that.

Sorry to hear it mate.

I think I love my cat more than the girlfriend - hmmm, and I don't mean that in a perverse sense either!

When I am am work I fret all day as he comes and goes with the cat flap open. Amazing how they have such fantastic personalities and become such a big part of your life. I will be devastated the day mine passes on.

Really feel for you. Our family has always been a "cat family" and after each one passes on we say "no more". In the end though the only way forward is to have another.

Greive for a week or two and then get down your local RSPCA rescue centre and find someone to take home and give another happy life too.

Time is the only healer. There is no easy way.

I know how you feel, our cocker spaniel passed away in February and recently the horse that I bred and looked after for 3 years of her life died Although I did not own her when she did die, there is a special bond between horses and humans that stays for life and it still hit me

I'm sorry to hear that Geoff, I know how you feel

I keep fish and have a really impressive Sea tank. The first fish i bought was a black and orange clown fish , I called it moby, unfortunately Moby recently died.

I looked after that fish and cared for it when it caught a disease. I watched it grow from a little tiddler into a real whopper.

I know that some of you are going to take the pi55 but I loved that fish.

i had a figure of eight puffer fish (pattern on it like an 8 ), anyway it died last month and it was very sad for the kids- they called him poffy the puffy puffer

funy how kids can get over somethings easy but a fish dies and they were sad for weeks.

Cem - I wouldn't beat yourself up over not feeding your hamster for 7 days. They store an awful lot of food for later. Every time I cleaned out my hamster I would find a stockpile of food and actually took to feeding him once a week as there was plenty in his bowl and little house.

A 10-month-old tabby cat is recovering after being blasted more than 20 times in the head and chest with an airgun.

Speckle suffered appalling injuries when he was found by a member of the public in the Leasowe area of Wirral, Merseyside (UK).

Vet Philip Shepherd removed three of the sharply pointed pellets but left at least another nine inside to spare the distressed cat further suffering.

He believes Speckle may have been restrained by those responsible before being repeatedly shot in a sustained and "particularly horrific" attack.

Officials of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which has launched an inquiry, condemned the thugs.

They say the charity investigated 780 airgun attacks on animals across England and Wales in the 12 months from September 2000.

Mr Shepherd says Speckle is making a good recovery although the remaining pellets could cause problems in the future.

He added: "This was a prolonged and concentrated attack on the cat, most probably with the intention of killing him. I have seen several cases of airgun attacks in the past but this was particularly horrific."

"Speckle has either been stuffed into a sack or this was done over a prolonged period of time. It is hard to tell. But this appears to have been one person with one weapon. It was a pretty determined effort. If it had been a stronger gun the cat would have been dead."

Speckle's owner, a 36-year-old mother from Moreton who does not want to be identified, praised the vet and the RSPCA for saving Speckle's life. The cat went missing more than four weeks ago.


Some people just make me sick. I would want to find they people that did this and do the same to them, then how would they feel. Ba$tard$.

My landlord has some fish

One of them is called Lenny the Loach (as he eats the algae) and that is my favourite atm, he is a right character
