Fit the dearEST fit Everest....
Some friends have bought a large bungalow, no double glazing. They asked Everest for a quote, 19 windows and two doors.
The quote came back at £34000...but they were offered five years' interest-free credit.
They declined on both offers, but have since been pestered by Everest, the latest offer being to do the job for...£14000, some £20,000 discount
Is this normal?

I don't know about Everest, but I had a couple of quotes from Safestyle 10 years ago. The first time their cowboys (I mean salesmen) came it was £3400. After a round of discounting it dropped to £2900. I thought about it and said I'd let them know. A week later they advertised a 'half price sale', won't be beaten on price blah blah blah, so I had them back and they said £4000. I then said so half price would then be £2000...... No the £4000 was half price. I was still laughing hard when they walked out the door embarrassed after me telling them of their previous £2900 offer. Bunch of crooks!

£14000 is still a joke as the country is in recession and there is no way a proper builder would pay those prices for a few windows hence why they rip the little man off.
Price the windows up your self as it will be on average £100 a window maybe more depending on style and you will see where all the cash is going

I find all the big glazing companies the same. I had a quote for a replacement conservatory a couple years back. Note this was to remove a timber conservatory, retain floor and dwarf wall, then supply/fit upvc replacement with glass roof.
Price from Anglian? £18k. The way they tried to parm me of as that being a good price then telling me about their so-called applied discount would take it down to £13k. Yeh right. Zzzz. In the end a small local reputable company did it for £8.5k. That also included plastering internal wall and adding some electrics.
Use the smaller companies mate. Just make sure you see examples of their work first, or know them through friends etc.

Our next door neighbour when I was eleven was everest salesman boss, mother made some sails for his catermaran (yacht)
3 things I remember about him
A, the amount of **** he metered out to his offspring. ( younger salesmen )
B, his car ashtray was fit to bursting and otherwise paperwork strewn all and sundry
C, fake beams in his kitchen (70's semi) ,not to mention gnomes in back garden, a lot of them
Sorry it's 4
On his catermaran maiden voyage with large sail, he held on to rope controlling it too long and smoke started pouring off his hands.

Three of the windows in the back of our house are Everest (not my fault, they were in when we bought it), they are absolutely sh!te. The hinges and locks keep failing, and all but one of the panes has blown
Fortunately I've finally got permission from the household authority to get the replaced this year. It will be a local reputable company that gets the work, since I'm very happy with the other windows they've fitted
