Default Smokers

Forgive my ignorance, but is there something more than nicotine that makes it addictive

I'm thinking back over holiday ,mate didn't have his usual roll-ups (so bought ready made )

And actually how much this might have affected everything he did

Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known.I don't think there is anything else in ready made cigs that is more addictive.
From what I have been told ready made cigs have more ingredients added too them than roll-up baccy but that is just hearsay.
So,there may have been something he was not used to that affected him.

But,what we really want to know is,what did he do!!!!!

Just had a thought.Where you abroad? If he bought cigs out there they may have been the cheap pirate copies.
They are made of all sorts of rubbish, some of it dangerous & are not controlled in any way.

Don't even remember what brand may been, nothing illegal I'm sure -was in Zambia/South africa

So is there anything at all in golden Virginia etc ...?

It's actually even now 6 weeks later were thinking back over it how much of a bloody nuisance the addiction was , for eg, we were going to a museum which ourselves we had been to before, but even before we'd got through the door he was asking us why we wanted to go and that he'd seen it all before.
So it was rushed, and at kiosk outside he was getting stroppy waiting behind someone, when he got there he was incensed the lady wasn't showing him the *** papers, and then apparently they were wrong flavour.
Believe me the 3 weeks bore the same vein. Maybe he just a pain anyway I have known him 14 years -Havnt spoken since we got back tho

Should have pointed out He's been to Egypt several times, and apparently everything else is small change

The plane home was a nightmare as well, couldn't cope with the guy in front reclining his seat, spent 6 hrs constantly fidgeting, ended up actually punching the back guys seat.

The stewardess suggested he move to an empty seat, which he'd done already but come back cos couldn't see a screen ( it was there, he couldn't find it apparently)

Stewardess came to us 3/4 in to apologise profusely for having to sit next to this passenger and hoped it hadn't put us off flying with them again!!

You need to open your eyes if you think Zambia or S.Africa are unlikely to have counterfeit cigs. 2 of the most corrupt countries around.Surely you can't be that naive.Just check the internet for info.

I worry about peoples comments on here. You make it sound as if you think these countries are safer & less corrupt than others.

True, although to be fair - these countries are awash with tobacco (as producers) so probably a reasonably safe bet in this instance. Anyway, half the fun of smoking involves the health risk - no?
Don't know if I'd be quite as happy pulling into a petrol station with the mapped STI though.

Yes, plenty tobacco grown. Very cheap in Zambia, not so much in S.A.

Thinking about it he brought back several packs for a mate, I'll have to see how he is
.

No, wait a minute fool, that was 6 weeks plus ago..

I went on a holiday to Zimbabwe a while back and the risks from tobacco consumption were definitely back seat to pretty much everything that might end up with you seeking urgent treatment at a local hospital.

He's got a stressful existence, he's traffic warden ten years has ankle problem which could end his earning. ( if he can get a payout off them ) also been shop steward ( employers hate him ) has mysterious eyesite problem since birth . And alcoholic girlfriend

But this was beyond as far as we were concerned. My Girlfriend says she's seen real side of him now

Well it was in '87.
I was minded to work there, but at that time, the unemployment rate was about 50% - and unsurprisingly, everyone was living behind barbed wire and barred windows with guards on the gate.
Shame, because beautiful country and lovely people.
C'est la vie.

I reckon its the attempt at "manliness" as a young person which sets you off until you wind up hooked!

I love the act of doing it. holding the stick, sucking on it.
I've given up for the second time. and have to say I don't miss smelly fingers.

I should save some money and be healthier but lets see.

There are many times when you'd be forgiven for thinking that very thing!

I do recall seeing something on TV a long time ago and some cigarette makers added something to theirs to make them more addictive than just nicotine.

Apparently there is over 500 different drugs in cigarettes so it's hardly surprising.

I packed in smoking 2 1/2 years ago, for me it wasn't the addiction that I found hard it was 90% the habbit.

I quit with no help just went cold turkey, was hard but worth it.

That's very true!. For this reason I'd never be able to quit in my current job.
