Used to smoke, up until two and a half years ago, although mostly in the pub etc (and never in the car ).

We gave up the day we moved to our new house (Dec 1999) and haven't smoked since. Will power roolz.

Funny that Mr Manchester i never smoked until i might my wife about 3 years ago.

We both gave up two weeks ago now, but of on holiday on Sunday so this will be the acid test.

Save's you a few quid if you both stop, abotu £70 a week we reckon!

I've just taken the healthy option and moved to American Spirit contactors tabs, a cheeky £5.34 a packet, about as good as a tab can get tho. no nasty hangovers the next day like I used to get with marlboro lights. Oddbins and tobogganists do them.

Unhappy

I started smoking again 3 years ago after giving up for 11 years. Still can't believe how stupid I was to start again. Smoke at least 20 a day.

Nope, having parents who smoke has put me off for life. I just remember being in the back of my parents car with all the windows closed with both of them smoking in the front. Used to tell them that I had a headache but they didn't believe me.

They have now both given up smoking and know exactly what I ment now!!

If you have any self respect/hygine then how the hell can you smoke?? Take it from me you absolutely stink.

I used the Nicotinell (sp?) patches. They definately take the edge off the craving, but theres no substitute for willpower

i tried the patches as well, the only problem was keeping them lit!

seriously, still trying to give up and have managed to cut down from 40 to about 15 a day.

smokers might want to know that there is a promo on a new brand of cigi at the moment (cant remenber the name) but you get a free lighter, if you smoke, get it as the lighter is a small round thing in Subaru (ish) blue with a 555 logo on it. was there a 555 scoob at one time?

Steve (just put out my 12th *** on the day)

tell Will i want some of his power

I don't and neither does my wife. (I'm Brian and so's... no, hang on a sec)

Here in Portugal it is almost impossible to find a smoke-free zone. The concept of smoking/non-smoking in restaurants is nearly unheard-of. I dislike it, but poor wifey starts to feel sick if she's within 10ft (10km sometimes) of a lit ciggy.

Those of you who smoke and want to give up - sod the money side, it's true, you cannot believe how badly you smell to us puritans!!

Go on, you know you want to...

Steve

The brand you refer to with the 555 on the lighter is, IIRC, 555

I smoke. Simple answer to a simple question.
Can I now expect to be told how unhealthy, expensive and smelly it is, let me save you the bother as I already know that. Who wants to live to see the age where we can be spoon fed and start wearing nappies again? Not me anyway.

My girlfriend smoked. In February of last year I sat at a hospital bedside and watched while she died of lung cancer. She was 44.

That was the most painful night of my life. If you don't care enough about yourself to stop, think about the people you'll leave behind. Please.

Cool

Having done a vascular surgery job I've seen my fair share of amputated limbs due to smoking induced arterial damage. There is a classic picture in a surgical textbook of a chap that had both legs and arms amputated and the patient in the next bed made him a cigarette holder from a coathanger which he could "hold" with his stump!! I guess there was not much point in him giving up.

The biggest worry surely is impotence!!!

Having seen my Father die from Lung cancer at the age of 59 and my Father in-law have both his legs amputated due to arterial disease. I can safely say that smoking is the most stupid thing you can do to your body short of getting a gun and shooting yourself. I think that ciggie firms have got a hell of a lot to answer for even in todays anti-smoking times.

Guilty, I smoke, I hate it. There's a new lady in my life and she used to but doesn't anymore. Been riding in her car a lot recently and when I got back into mine I nearly threw up....IT STANK. Suddenly dawned on me that I too must reek.
Have purchased patches, chewing gum and lollys.that's it it's official I QUIT.
Hopefully the love of a good woman will keep me on track.
It's hardest when I'm in a pub or stuck in traffic.
