Default An outrage!

The humble apostrophe is being banned in Devon

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-21795179

I think they should ban trombones too, pretty sure most people don't know how to use them properly either!

Outrageou's.

I wish i could say i was surprised

Dumbing down to the common denominator. Or "progress" as it's referred to.

But let's face it, i reckon 90% or more of users on here don't know the difference between it's and its. And most don't have a clue why things like Subaru's is so tragically wrong.

So for the vast majority this is a non-story, sadly.

That's Devon's problem, not ours. Surely they are renaming streets from "Baker's View" to "Bakers View". Could be achieved without reference to punctuation at all. Nothing to see here.

It's teaching people that it's ok to not understand apostrophes, like Telboy says, it's dumbing down. As well as completely changing the meaning of the street name.

It's a little thing, but enough of these things will cause the collapse of civilization!

In cases like the market advertising example, I'd rather somebody told them not to use punctuation at all.

They've done a U-turn! Common sense prevails. Faith in humanity restored a teeny bit.

Good decision.

But there are many anomalies. Bakers Avenue, for instance. That just cannot be correct unless it was named after a Mr Bakers, which i doubt. I don't think i could live in a mis-spelt road
