Default Wheeler Dealers - Mk1 Escort

Anyone see this tonight?

Ed and Mike did up a Mk1 Escort and went beyond what they usually do... car looked pretty damn good by the time they finished it even if the yelow wouldn't be my first choice.

What was really intersting though was the 1 minute glimpse of the Ford Heritage Collection at Dagenham.... a host of Fords that appear to be concours and kept under perfect conditions some with delivery mileage only. Wouldn't mind a look around there!

I'd love to have a close look at some of their cars that they do, can't believe that someone paid £11,800 for that, they didn't even paint under the bonnet, so straight away there's another job that would want doing. Also, when he was changing the front brakes/struts he had to remove the ball joints, which all had perished rubber seals, why not simply replace them, sometimes I just think people buy the cars because they're from. A tv series.

I read on a blog a while back that they do quite a bit more that we don't see and sometimes not in the order you would expect due to filming schedules. You can spot this in quite a few of the shows as when you see the car being sold it has things that have been replaced on it that weren't done when they drove the 'finished' car.

To be fair the show isn't perfect, but it's way better than anything else out there trying to do this sort of thing. Mike comes across as a bit of wide boy, but Ed does seem to know his stuff! I enjoy it for what it is and that is permitted with all shows except Top Gear

I suppose we have to put up with what we get motoring wise on the tv, certainly is one of the better programmes at the moment, and within most of our budgets.

But it is a common problem and that was the common solution.
If they had spent money on the door seals, then they would have kissed good bye to that £500 profit.

Try watching programmes supposedly about railways.

You get a few clips of the trains and loads of guff about the people who travel on them, work on them and live nearby......

And the usual snide comments about "trainspotters".

500 profit would not have bothered he said at the start of the programme they wer worth around 20-25k then sold it for what 14k or was it 13k.

i know its just a programme but the level out there at the moment is quite frankley shocking ive just taken a call, guy wants a shorter drive belt because the tensioner has failed wtf this is a customers car.

they should have sorted the bushes out full stop if they did after the show then they need to state that its not safe to leave **** like that

All their cars have an MOT unless otherwise stated so it must have had the bushes done. To be fair they only have a camera crew there for a set time so they probably do have to redo jobs as otherwise the crew would have to hang around for hours while they did one job to get to the bit they want to film.

It's like the buying and selling .... they do the deals and then restage them for the cameras... let's remember it is TV after all

At least it's not like that load of crap on Channel 5 a few months ago where the bald angry bloke was restoring 'classic' cars with the Italian chap and their MG changed into a different car half way throught the show

The Mk1 Escort is repeated 4 times in the next 7 days usually late at night on Discovery.

The first one (the Aston) wasn't that great tbh!

Did anyone see the episode with the Suzuki 4x4? They made it into a mini monster truck off roader and to me it looked the business, but it failed the MOT and because it would cost to much to get it through they sold it to a farmer for use on his farm.

Yeh that was a total waste of pixels.

They should make a series with the likes of indigo gt madevlopments Norris designes roger Clark etc.

They could all buy the same cars a set amount they can spend and at the end of the show have a race or maybe a track race then a drift session and then a sprint session.
Then they should give all the cars to me as it was my idea lol.

Edd china is a clever man he needs to loose mike take it up the bum brewer and go solo the whole bond theme with the Aston was cringe worthy to the highest level.

In the past some of the cars have been sold to the production company. They have also used pro car restoration companies to restore some of the cars.

That said - its still a good watch.

I'm looking forward to watching this one, I seen the db7 one the other day and a one where they did a nice tr6 ( might have been an old show ) I especially like how all the bolts p*ss out for big Ed as I would imagine they have a hardcore spanner monkey going through all the seized nuts and bolts cracking them off and replacing with new before hand.

I like it anyway its just a bit of fun, you can't take a 7ft bloke and his gimp seriously anyway.
