Close Enough ?

Surely either:
a) The lack of airflow through the engines would be a problem or,
b) The photographer and equipment would be sucked into the intakes at that distance.
I conclude this is probably a fake.

I am not saying that you need to trawl old threads to avoid duplication.

There is a link in there to the original RAF photos and a good discussion.

Formation flying was one of my favouirite exercises and we used to fly very close indeed, as long as you felt you could trust the leader to remain very steady without sudden large movements. A couple of feet clearance or so was ok as long as you paid very close attention! So embarrassing to collide and very difficult to explain away!
I have to say that does look very close from the point of view of possible interference to the air entering the engine intakes. It may be that the slipstream from under the Herc is sufficient but if his intakes were over the top of the Herc lower rear hatch, he could be risking an engine surge. As far as the people in the Herc are concerned, as someone said above...don't get sucked in!
I did have a trip with the Arrows once at the Plymouth air display because one of my mates was in the team. I was allowed to fly the aircraft around some of the aerobatic manoeuvres and I can't tell you what a thrill that was!

We used to do most of the same air displays where the Blue Angels were, in the USA as well.
We got to know them very well and what you say about their evenings before is dead accurate!
The time I flew with the Arrows proved that all those display teams seem to be the same! One of the two blokes who did the individual aerobatics fell up the stairs into the bus taking us to the aircraft.
