I have to admit i was slightly surprised it burst into flames. How often does that actually happen outside of Hollywood? You see some massive pile ups on the motorway and all flame free.

Hi, if a member of your family had been run over and left in a wheel chair or worse, would you still be so sympathetic ?

No.

I didn't realise they had killed or maimed someone though.

If you had a wayward son who robbed someone and nicked a car and burnt to death would you like people saying he deserved it?

It was almost certainly purely luck that they didn't given they crashed into several cars before it exploded.

Well that's probably the best part of £40k worth of benefits no longer being claimed. Result I guess.

I have zero sympathy for the main perps. GTA is a calculated crime and it is very hard to argue you were caught up in the moment or acting on impulse. However, there is the possibility that one/some of the people involved were just along for ride* and I'd have sympathy for them and their family.

* For example, young lad gets call from mate who's just nicked RS4. He gets picked up to go along for joyride. Stupid for sure, but not a calculated crime.

I think there is more to this story than just the two involved in the car crash. Another car was stolen, people threatened and burglary. Certainly does look like a calculated crime and not joyriders which in itself is a lighthearted term for a distressing time for the victim.

Stealing cars is a risky business. Personally I would rather find my car burnt out with the thieves still in it, than get it back.

outstanding news 2 less passengers on the platform of life, just a shame they took 9 peoples hard earned cars with them, and became another small percentage reason to bump everybodys insurance up, on a lighter side i wonder if they indicated before they crashed into the parked cars

It's this kind of bull**** softly softly approach that's to blame for the state this country's in to be honest.

I bet you're the type of person that agree the naughty step is more effective than a clip round the ear.

I was a way ward little sod at the best of times and a clip round the ear never did me any harm.

I bet your wishy washy approach would see these two car thieves on some kind of waste of space rehabilitation course costing tax payers thousands.

I have Zero tolerance for thieving scum especially with the damage they've done and the problems they've caused as a result.

And if I was the parents of these two scumbags I'd blame myself for not being harder on them when they were younger. You know sending them to some imaginary ineffective naughty step instead of a clip round the ear.

If that's the case there's a few on here that could do with a bit of 'natural selection'

BTW I agree with DL, whilst these thieves brought this upon themselves, it takes a special kind of idiot to say they deserve to die.

Well you'd lose your bet sonny. Why on earth would you assume that is my view?

My view is that car thieves should be punished but not burnt to death. Is that clear enough?

I wouldn't say they deserved to die, but if that's how the dice rolls so be it.
I have no sympathy for them. As said two less thieving scumbags to worry about.

Perhaps if you had seen them burning to death you might have found an iota of sympathy?
