Red face School Closures ........

I see that there is uproar about Schools who are still closed today - despite the roads being clear!!!

Everyone else can get into work - why do Teachers struggle so much???

To make matters worse, in the eyes of the Public, Teachers are gloating on FaceBook ... calling it another Duvet day!!!!!

Trouble with Teachers is that have never known a real job, in the real world ..... they were at School, then university, then Teacher Training College, then School to Teach.

The real world needs to knock on their doors and tell them to get their 4rses to School!!!

More to the point, why does Pete seem to hate teachers?

Did the nasty teachers bully you when you were at school Petey?

When you get to my age you see so clearly the injustices around you.

And I don't hate Teachers ...... I just think they should get real sometimes. They moan about so many things it's damned annoying.

I don't remember ever having a day off school because of bad weather but that was many decades (gulp!) ago, we were obviously tougher then.

Now you know how us long suffering Snetters feel listening to your constant whinging about **** all.

Folk whinging about school closures due to snowy conditions really winds me up - let the bairns get some sledging fun, we don't get decent snow that often.

As a Head would you want an accident to be on your shoulders with the way that the media react these days? Not only have you the physical wellbeing of the students to consider but should anything happen, e.g. a kid slipping over and breaking an arm you are opening yourself up to being sued and losing your job.

Ironically I think its the real world that is to blame for this.

Maybe I should be more specific. Its the changing real world that we have come to know and love today that is to blame for this...

It could be argued, given that more children are hurt sledging and being OUT of school, that the Heads are being negligent by keeping them away from the safety of school.

The Head would not be sued OR lose their job - unless they had been negligent in some way ..... as long as they applied ALARP, then they wouldn't be sacked or sued at all.

There is the suspicion that Teachers put huge pressure on Heads to close the School.

I wonder how it would change things if Teachers lost a days pay for their 'snow days'?

Quite right - its not actually all about the roads being clear, its about the safety of the school which keeps it closed in this weather.
If school paths are not cleared / gritted for example then the school can't open....my local school was asking for volunteers to help clear the paths at the weekend so it could open today.
Also my daughter tells me at her school a lot of teachers live / come in from outside the area and use train travel - which often is badly disrupted in snow. If a certain % of teachers cannot get in the school can't open, so I have been told.

This type of weather also brings problems to schools with heating etc and so any issues with heating the building / temperature and it has to close.

I would suggest, therefore, that the Teachers come in early AND CLEAR THE PATHS around the School !!!!!!!

But, of course, that would mean Teachers going that 'one step beyond' ...... and my experience tells me that they won't do that (not unless they get some form of TLR Payment for it that is!!!).

This is the 1st day my daughters school has been closed due to the snow and their decision was made for them by the bus companies whom advised the school not to open.

The Bus Companies have no say in the closing of a School ........ they may say they are not running the School Bus (but that would be a contractual matter).

A very convenient reason for the Teachers to have a Duvet Day!! Unless, of course, the Teachers went in and cleared the School of snow? But, I doubt it very much!

Teachers clear the school?
Aye, right....when they are ALREADY working to rule because they haven't had a pay rise in three years, and haven't had one even EQUAL to the rate of inflation for fifteen.....

Work to rule??? What is this? The 70s? Sorry mate, but they need to get a sense of perspective. I have taken a 30% pay cut since 2007 and if I went on a work to rule I'd have no customers

I can only remember our school being shut twice during snow, both times due to a broken boiler. Maybe it's a special kind of snow these days?

I see .... are you doing the USUAL and IGNORING the Annual Payrise Teachers get stepping up the PayScale without hindrence?!

Hmmmmmmm ..... selective choices of baselines here.

Teachers have had TLR Payments introduced - £5000 a year for looking after the NoticeBoard? £5000 for looking after the Bike Sheds?

No-one is fooled anymore .... Teachers have been paid VASTLY ahead of any other Profession for at least 12 years now!!
