This is something that's bothered me for as long as I can recall and would like to hear others opinions on it

It's the way the society we live in works

How can everyone just get on with their life whilst we're all being dumped on from above ?

I just don't understand it ? At many points during the day I honestly feel like just screaming as loud as I can, that's how hard I find this whole situation to contemplate.

Surely we should all be working side by side for the good of our fellow man and nation ?

How did you (the older generation) let this happen ?

This country needs a total reform, almost a revolution I would say. How far does our current government need to push us before we snap ?

Or are we to well mannered to do anything about it ?

This ones an awful question to ask but where would a peaceful protest get us ?

Three gems that I learned of this week annoyed me greatly

1.) A gambling addiction group managed to get their plea heard by the government. They wanted a reduction in the UNREGULATED Casino style gaming machines in bookies. These things are evil and in my opinion probably rigged to go

2.) Again, for the countless time, scientists tell the government that there's many illegal drugs that are less harmful than tobacco and alcohol. Love or hate drugs, I'm pretty sure we can all agree that the current laws are doing nothing to help the control the miss use of drugs

3.) A friend was recently accepted into college. Whilst there the head of the department briefly described the budget cuts their facing. 120 students applied for a course, usually they would accommodate them all, because of cutbacks only 60 places were offered. Thats means that 60 people that were qualified for the course never got on because someone messed up all finances ?

Totally unacceptable

He also went on to say that the college in question has to join another college, from totally different county and work on basically the same budget they had for one college

What chance do the younger generation have when perfectly capable students can't be educated ? Not only does that hold them back it holds us back not only as a nation, but as a race.

Where do they go from here ? Sign on the dole for a year and try again or stack shelfs in Tesco forever more ?

I can go on forever and ever about this, these are just the gems from the past few days, I'm not even going to get started on the MPs payrise

So, back to my point, what can we do ?

Over the past 6 months to a year I've seen a huge rise in people that are getting as annoyed as me about this whole situation. Whether it be on Scoobynet, journalists in the paper, reporters on TV. I feel it building but will it end up with something constructive ?

Next time there's an election can we have a box that says 'none of the above, we want a total reform of society and our government' ?

There is always going to be something in life where you feel there's an injustice and if you feel that strongly about it, well then do something about it. Take responsibility for your own future because neither the state nor anyone else will do it for you. But on the whole i agree with the sentiment i think you're trying to convey. Capitalism teetering on the brink of existence, acceptability, call it what you will. I too am not sure how this dysfunctionality will manifest itself, but something in the water just doesn't feel right, somehow.

It is getting too '1984' for my liking.

I was driving to the cash machine & the radio had a Government advert saying that if you haven't declared all your income the IRS are going to be out to get you.

THEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cash machine had the same bloody advert on it!!!

Let's bash the little man...............again.

I just boils my p8ss when all the tax money is being avoided by multi-millionaires & corporations.Then the tax we do collect is spent bailing out useless tossers in banking who keep their salary rises, bonuses & massive payments if they are sacked or moved on.

i do this most nights hav a rant about the state of our great country, what kind of gov have we got leading us, some of the things i find almost hard to believe, IS THERE IN FACT A MASTER PLAN for the uk.blind leading the blind? part of my family have moved to oz because of what they see is a bad future for us. possibly becoming very very poor, with middle eastern problems showing up in our own back yards.as noel edmunds said, the boat is full and was 20 years ago. i could really go on and on and on here, but it gets boring then.as jonc says make your life what U want it to be.

A huge question, here are my thoughts.

The biggest impact on our country over the last ten years is the 2.3 billion people in India and China that work for, in China, an average wage in 2012 of $1.36 compared to $23 in the UK. Huge, huge impact, and no politician can do anything about it (well, not much)

Second point is, in time, you just learn to accept stuff. Well i do. I look after myself, my family and my friends, thats it. For example, imo McDonalds should be on trial for crimes against human health, but its too big a company for me to take on. So i just ignore it (and make sure i never go there myself). What other people do, sadly, i don't care. Let them kill themselves.

As for the future, i'm an eternal optimist. We'll adapt, and change,and improve, but it wont be painless.

You don't need to blame politicians if your life is ****.... get a grip on yourself and make your life better, fortune shines on the proactive!

I run a small to med business and we are growing 15/20% per year for 6 years straight!

We pay our taxes and keep a keen eye on Whitehall.

Don't forget, if you have a mortgage, chances are you can afford your car because the int rates are so low.... then you'll bitch about savings, don't depend on interest rates to get something out of your money....

The boy is in Aussie and is not coming back ,can't blame him to be honest

Pensioners benefits are ok and are getting better and we have good healthcare and infrastructure if your fairly rich and debt free
But I would not like to start over again

Whilst the OP hasn’t been entirely eloquent with his post he had a very valid point. But I think the single biggest problem facing this country comes from overpopulation. Full stop. There is no way this country will remain a stable and cohesive society if it continues to let in the numbers we have seen enter Britain in the last decade or so. But unless something drastic is done the population will continue to rocket.

The resultant problems include the ghetto-isation of swathes of new comers who eventually will need not just a corner of a suburb or a district but eventually a city in its entirety and then a whole region, then a province and then….their own separate country within ours. Before anybody accuses me of sounding like a nationalist or racist or whatever I say nothing here about the race or religion of anybody in my prediction. But I will say this much – I know somebody who spent a number of years in Bosnia during the troubles. He was there before and then during the war and he said to me several years ago that mass immigration will take Britain down the same road as the former Yugoslavia. The driving force behind it will be down to one simple thing. Too many people squabbling over too little land. The idiots of on the left say that by allowing millions of people to enter Britain we have ‘enriched the tapestry of society’. What those same clowns forget that is that not everybody thinks like them. That includes those who the Leftist loonies let into this country.

I think it is fair to conclude that certain newcomers have no intention of enriching the tapestry of society and have every intention of converting Britain a mono-culture similar to the one they left behind. What do the Leftists have to say about that? Eventually their will be enough of those who want to import their culture into Britain that they actually start succeeding in their aim. That is where the fragmentation begins, having separate laws standards, norms etc. I also think it is fair to say that Britain is already on that road. I think eventually their will be (like in the former Yugoslavia) increased civil unrest which will eventually erupt into civil war.

Call me a cynical fool if you chose. I don’t care. But if you think I am wrong, what do you think Britain will be like in say, 100 years time instead then? I am no doom monger but it is very hard to see what the alternative for this country is. As I said, this has absolutely nothing to do with race, religion, gender etc, it is purely about numbers. But no doubt somebody will say I am being prejudiced.

3, out of the 120 suposedly qualified, how many are actualy smart enough to justify a place. some uni students i know are thick as two short planks and would be better off doing apprentiships in manufacturing.

I like it here a lot - sure a lot of policies aren't fair, I hate the banks forever, there's corruption and the like but the way I look at it - it's not a dictatorship (well not quite), we are free to make our own choices and just roll with the "punches" the government dishes out.

What DOES worry me is that the UK is in SUCH a financial mess, we might actually see our savings/earnings being restricted/capped/dipped into by the government some time soon.

I also think there'll be civil unrest on a big scale - our country is UTTERLY broke. Very few people realise how bad it is.

Good post, Dan. I just get the feeling that the bubble has been burst beyond redemption for the reasons you mention. We have almost no national identity now, we're just taking all-comers because economically we're the most attractive. At some point when the State system can't cope, swingeing cuts on a level that make the current austerity measures look like a playground game will have to be brought into force. At that point people either move away, or they start getting fractious, or both. I hate the thought of civil war in Britain, but can anyone say it's not inevitible? Integration is a lovely word, it just doesn't really apply very well to animals, humans included. I'm glad i'm not a youngster in faceless UK.

I thought our population (irrespective of actual nationality) has remained pretty stable for the last 30 odd years (within 1 or 2%)

So when you say we are overpopulated what figures are you using?

4 million people in just over a decade isn't dramatic?? What?? And that's just the official numbers, i'd put good money on the real increase being way above 5 million. By any standard, that is meteoric and unsustainable.
