Default Any Plant/tree experts in ?

One of my kids got given a mini Christmas tree and it was in his bedroom so I rescued it, its a sort of mini real christmas tree in a pot, was going to plant it outside but looking at the lable it says its an indoor plant, I thought these grew in Scandinavia in snow ?

So, it looks healthy and we dont want it inside, how come it says indoor given its a fir type tree, is it something that looks like one, it even says move it off windowsills in cold weather, what kind of lame fir tree cant stand a windowsill !

Jacko,

My daughter was given a xmas tree in a little pot when she was 2, we re-potted it after that xmas and it still stands in a large 3ft dia tub out the front garden and has done for the past 21 years. We still put lights on it every xmas as well.

Chip, if the tree was a Norway Spruce for example then it'd be fine but J4CKO's tree sounds something like my link. I have 2 Norway Spruce trees planted in my garden; One stuck in 20 years ago after Christmas and is now over 60ft tall - 30ft wide and houses my Kestrel box. The other tree is older and stands 75-80ft tall and a similar width.

Ah right, ours is only about 4ft high now after all these years and it's never been pruned either. My wife wants it gone but the rest of us want it to stay.

A small petition asking the wife to leave wouldn't be difficult.

Brilliant.

Give her the option. It's either the tree or her that gets planted in the garden.

Looks like a mini version of you common Christmas tree, I have left it in the garage and will see how it goes and perhaps plant it out when the weather is warmer so as to give it half a chance.

£40?! You can buy 20 saplings for that price. Just think how much they will save you over the next twenty years!

I once bought a little Christmas tree type plant about 10 year ago from a local vegetable shop for £3. It was much fuller and bright green instead of sporadic branches and dark green needly leaves like the usual Christmas tree has. After a month of keeping it, I got it out of the pot and planted in the garden. I am rubbish at gardening, but this tree really took on without any TLC! it was about 20 ft tall in two years! Had I not got its top chopped off every two years, it would have grown double the height of our house! I don't know what tree it is, but it is one of them hedgy types. I'm sure it gets sold around Christmas in little pots with some red flower and ivy etc. stuck around it. I think Tesco sell it as a little plant with glitter all over it etc. around Christmas.

Missus bought me one last year and I ended up sticking it in the front garden. It seemed to do okay over the summer but doesn't look so good now, maybe this one was not for outdoors either, never read the instructions. It was sprayed with gold glitter and it stayed on for quite a while whilst outside, thought the rain would have washed it off sooner
